YSGOL GYNRADD HYWEL DDA WORK LIFE BALANCE POLICY At Hywel Dda Primary School we are committed to ensuring that teachers attain a genuine work/life balance so that they have the time to combine their work with their personal interests outside school. Teachers are valued for their contribution to raising standards, not their working pattern. We recognise that such practice benefits both teachers and pupils. In order to manage workload the following principles are followed: Administrative and Clerical Tasks In order that teachers can focus on teaching and learning, support is provided by Administrative Assistants and Teaching Assistants to carry out the clerical and administrative tasks. Teachers are advised that it is important that they make good and appropriate use of the support provided Meetings Meetings in which teachers are expected to participate are kept to a minimum These meetings relate to the curriculum or the administration and organisation of the school, including pastoral arrangements The Senior Leadership team meets weekly The Senior Leadership Team feed back to the staff following an SLT meeting (Morning briefings usually held the following day) Meetings with parents are staggered across daytime appointments, during teachers’ PPA time, and one evening in the Autumn and Spring terms. PPA Time All teachers are guaranteed 10% of their timetabled teaching time for the purpose of Planning, Preparation and Assessment For full time teachers in Nursery, reception and KS2 this is provided weekly in one full block, either in the morning or afternoon For job-share teachers this is provided fortnightly in one full block PPA is timetabled so that year group teachers can work together to enable professional discussion of curriculum matters, to ensure consistency and to share the workload of planning The timetable allows for Foundation Phase teachers to work together PPA time missed through absence due to sickness cannot be re-timetabled Allowances are made, where possible, to provide PPA time that is missed through attendance at some INSET courses PPA will be re-timetabled if the INSET course relates to the School Improvement Plan. It may not, however, be rearranged during the same week If the course is one of a teacher’s own choosing, for their personal development, PPA will not be rearranged
Non-Contact Time Non-contact time is provided for Curriculum Co-ordinators to carry out their responsibilities This is arranged on a rolling programme through a two year timetable for the Monitoring, Evaluation and Review of all curriculum areas Leadership Time In addition to PPA time, members of the Senior Leadership Team are provided with management time for carrying out their extra responsibilities The Head teacher has dedicated Headship time off site as and when necessary to focus on leadership issues. This is a maximum of one half day a week. Management Ethos Due regard and consideration are given to individual members of staff, both teaching and non-teaching, when they face personal or family difficulties The management of the school is very open to members of staff who face such difficulties and will endeavour to offer support and make arrangements to alleviate any problems, be they work or home based Headteacher: Mrs S Voyce Chair of Governors: Mrs Sullivan-Godfrey Date: November 2016
