WORK WELL NEWS February 2017

Quit Smoking with Freedom From Smoking Starting February 15th, the Work Well program will offer Freedom From Smoking, a 7-session workshop designed to help smokers quit, and stay quit. The workshop will be held in the downstairs training room of The Rasmussen Group’s corporate office from 5:00 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. The first three sessions of the workshop are structured around helping participants put a plan in place so they are prepared to fight cravings and avoid triggers when they quit smoking. Session four is Quit Day, when the whole group gives up smoking for good. The remaining sessions are designed to create a supportive environment to help participants stay quit. Freedom From Smoking is an evidence-based program developed by the American Lung Association, and has a 70% quit rate when participants use a nicotine replacement product while attending the class. A 2-week supply of nicotine replacement patches are included in the workshop cost. Freedom From Smoking is a $300 value available to The Rasmussen Group’s employees and their spouses for ONLY $25! DON’T FORGET, you can earn your $25 back, PLUS an additional $25 if you are signed up on the Wellness Center portal and complete 6 out of the 7 sessions! DON’T WAIT TO SIGN UP! SPACE IS LIMITED! If you are ready to quit smoking, or using a tobacco product of any kind FOR GOOD, Freedom from Smoking can help you quit and STAY QUIT! You do not need to be signed up for the Work Well wellness program to participate. If you would like to register, please contact The Rasmussen Group Wellness Coordinator, Jessica, at (515) 266 -5173 or [email protected]. The Freedom From Smoking workshop schedule is shown below.

Hit Your Stride Step Challenge Begins March 1st Hit Your Stride is a 10-week step challenge. This team-based challenge begins March 1st and can be accessed on the Wellness Center portal. The challenge will run March 1st – May 3rd. Participants have the option to either create a team, or join an existing team. Teams must consist of at least 2 people, with a max of 10.

This challenge is worth $50 on the Wellness Center. In order to earn the $50 reward, participants must achieve two goals: 1.

Meet an average of 5,000 steps per day, totaling 300,000 steps, by the end of the challenge.

2.

Record your steps at least 10 times (once per week) throughout the challenge

Participants will have the option to manually track their steps in the Wellness Center, or sync a compatible device or app. The three teams with the highest average number of steps at the end of the challenge will earn an additional reward. Registration begins February 15th, so start forming your teams now and lets have some fun!

Syncing your device or app can be done in three easy steps:

2) Select which app you would like to sync.

1) Your device can be synced by clicking one of two areas on your Wellness Center homepage; Health Record at the top of the page, or “Let’s Go” next to the pink icon. Click one of the two areas circled as shown in the image below.

2) Click “Connect Account” and enter in your username and password for that app to sync your app to the Wellness Center.

Quarter 2 Activity Underway The Quarter 2 Activity, Give Back for Good Health, is currently underway. According to bluezonesproject.com, volunteering gives you a chance to lead a more meaningful life by donating your time, expertise and effort to help a worthy cause. Every time you volunteer, you'll be making your community better and contributing to local causes that reinforce your sense of life purpose.

Aside from the emotional benefits of volunteering, there are significant health benefits associated with giving your time. Studies have noted lower rates of cancer and heart disease as well as reduced healthcare costs among people who volunteer regularly. It seems that volunteers gain as much as they give. In order to complete this activity, you will need to volunteer two hours of your time to earn your $25 reward. This could include helping a friend move, serving a meal at a local shelter, or coaching your child’s sports team. Once you have completed two hours of volunteer time, enter the date you volunteered and where in the Quarter 2 Activity section in the Wellness Center. Then click “SAVE” to earn your $25 credit.

Employees “Give Back for Good Health” at Meals From the Heartland On January 26th, several employees from various Rasmussen Group companies and their family members volunteered to pack meals for Meals From The Heartland to earn their Quarter 2 Activity, Give Back for Good Health, credit on the Wellness Center portal. Thank you to everyone who participated!

Work Well Required Activities Although the Work Well program is voluntary to participate in, there are three requirements employees and spouses must complete before their first gift card will redeem. Gift cards are automatically redeemed every $50, but until these three requirements are met, gift cards will not be sent out.

The three requirements participants must complete are: 1)

First Things First: Please read the ADA Notice document, and the Work Well Waiver document, then click “SAVE”.

2)

Wellness Assessment: Please complete the Wellness Assessment. This questionnaire will help you determine what health risks you have. Once this is completed, points will automatically be credited immediately.

3) Know Your Numbers: Completing a company health screening, or a physical with your doctor, is required. If you missed the opportunity to receive a company health screening last fall, a physical must be completed. In order to receive credit for a physical, please print the required form in this section, have it completed during your physical by your doctor, and asked to have it sent to Mercy Medical Center via the instructions provided on the form. For questions, or more information regarding these required activities, please contact The Rasmussen Group’s Wellness Coordinator, Jessica Sheets, at (515) 266-5173 or [email protected]. Note: For hard copies of forms, please contact Jessica.

Nicotine Replacement Patches Nicotine replacement patches help smokers manage nicotine withdrawal by delivering nicotine to the body in a healthier, safer way than cigarettes. Ideally, ex-smokers can gradually reduce the amount of nicotine or stop nicotine replacement therapy all at once after they have broken the habit of smoking. Even when used for long periods of time, nicotine replacement patches are far safer than smoking. Quit rates range from 19% - 26% for those who used a nicotine replacement therapy. The Rasmussen Group Wellness Coordinator, Jessica, keeps nicotine replacement patches on hand in her office. She has 21 mg, 14 mg, and 7 mg strength patches available. A two-week supply is $24. Payroll deduction is available. For more information, Jessica can be reached at 515-266-5173 or [email protected].
