We need your help! I want to share a story that I think may encourage you. In 1986, when the Lord called us to step out by faith and start Uplands Reach and a life of evangelism, many people said it would never happen. A family in our church gave us a 1969 travel trailer, and we loaded it with all we owned and drove 700 miles north to begin a dream. My parents graciously allowed us to park our rolling home on a piece of land they owned and paid our monthly power bill. We had precious neighbors across the creek on Vannoy Road in Wilkes County who had no indoor plumbing, and a pipe from a spring constantly ran water into an old sink in their home. Yet, they provided for us; each week they would bring us a bag of potatoes and some leather britches (dried green beans). Many weeks, it was the only food we had. The only way I knew to get the word out about our dream was to have a weekly local radio broadcast. Few people in the area knew us and very few understood our dream. We felt much like early settlers of our nation. Sue carried water in milk jugs for all of our water needs. The reason for the milk jugs was that our spring went dry. this time our first child, Jake, was born. The twenty-nine foot travel trailer suddenly got very small! Sue’s parents bought a beautiful mobile home for us, and we were able to dig a well. In 1986, our first year’s total budget for ministry and salary was $5,000. However, God began to open doors, and now we stand amazed! All I can say is, “What a Savior!” If we had to go back to potatoes and leather britches tomorrow, we would gladly do it for an opportunity to serve the Savior. Your partnering with my family will continue to allow us the privilege of watching Jesus turn a dream into a reality. I really believe the upcoming years could be the greatest years of ministry we have ever seen because hurting people need a healing Savior. Our family and I believe that
living by faith has been a journey that has molded us to be more like Jesus. Your sacrificial support would allow my family the privilege of continuing to serve the Savior.
