W.T. Woodson High School Freshmen Football Parent / Coaches Meeting 19 June 2014
Purpose • To provide information to the parents concerning the W.T. Woodson Freshmen Football Team program.

Introducing the Coaches • • • •

Philosophy MISSION: The Football Program produces competitive teams each season that instills pride in the community, school and student athlete while developing the character of the player. VISION: A quality football program that fields competitive teams each season with the talent available. The program will be a source of pride for the community, faculty, administration, student body, players. The program will have a positive impact the lives of those involved will enable opportunity. Our Freshmen Football Program will be built on four core values. • 1. INTEGRITY: We will never compromise our integrity on or off the field. We will demonstrate that winning with honor is our standard. • 2. DEDICATION: Our program demands 100% effort from everyone. You will have competing demands for your time. • 3. SELFLESS SERVICE: I consider this value to be the cornerstone of our Team. It is performing a service without any expectation for a personal gain. It means you put the welfare of the Team before your own. • 4. RESPECT: Treat others the way you want to be treated. We will show respect to our families, our community, our school, our team, and our sport by the way we conduct ourselves both on and off the field.
Expectations • Be on time, at the right place in the correct uniform. – – – – – – – – –
1st Unexcused absence will result in individual conditioning. 2nd Unexcused absence will result in loss of ½ of a game 3rd Unexcused absence will result in loss of 1 GAME & extra conditioning. 4th Unexcused absence can result in dismissal from team.
1st time late to practice will result in extra team conditioning. 2nd time late to practice will result in individual and team conditioning 3rd time late to practice will be treated the same as 1 unexcused absence. 4th time late to practice will be treated as another unexcused absence.
• DISRESPECT IN ANY FORM WILL NOT BE TOLERATED IN THIS PROGRAM!!
Communication • Parent – Coach Communication Plan – The “24” hour rule - will be in effect after all games. This means coaches will not be available for meetings with parents until 24 hours after a contest. – Parents are encouraged to follow up with coaches on the progress / status of their child.

Booster Club and Gridiron Club • We need participation in these clubs. • Co-Chair of Gridiron Club Doug Heffner and Jane Riley. – Freshmen parents are needed to volunteer at the concession stands during the JV and Varsity games. – We need the following: • • • • •
camera operator. Chain gang Meals Gatorade donations End of the year banquet volunteers
Concussions • Parents will be required to take the on-line training. • FCPS.EDU • Strength training • Proper tackling and blocking
Expenses • $150.00 (bring check to the next parent coaches meeting on 17 July. In addition, all required forms.) The $150.00 covers: – Pregame meals – Shorts, socks, and T-shirts
• Additional stuff you need to purchase: – Cleats (Red, White, Blue, or Black) – Girdle – Mouth piece?
