Home Learning expectations  Each week children are asked to learn a set of age-appropriate spellings which focus on learning ABOUT spelling in order to develop their understanding of spelling sounds, patterns and rules. Children will have had the opportunity to explore the sounds and rules in class beforehand. Home learning will therefore be about consolidating this learning. Although the children will be assessed each week in the form of a spelling test, we will be assessing whether they can apply their learning to new words with the same sounds and patterns.  Children are expected to learn multiplication table facts and all number bonds to 20 at home on a regular basis.  A further task which could be maths, English or topic related, is set each week and should be completed in your child’s Learning Log.  In addition to this we encourage the children to read as much as possible at home, both independently and with an adult. A note of this should be made in your child’s Reading Record and handed in each week with the Learning Log. In total, Home Learning should not exceed one and a half hours per week.
