Year 6 Curriculum Information TOPICS COVERED THIS TERM INCLUDE: Science –

Micro-organisms, revision of plants and electricity

MATHEMATICS:

History – Britain since 1930 leading to the 2nd World War.

In addition to revision, some of the work covered in oral maths this term will include

Technology – Food technology – yoghurt project; model of a Morrison shelter; wartime crafts.

Developing strategies to solve mathematical problems mentally, quickly, through oral and written mental tasks.

P.E. – Rounders. ‘Kwik’ Cricket, athletics Some of the work covered in topic maths this half term will include

LITERACY:



Reinforcing operations of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division and applying them to money, decimals, problems.



Co-ordinates, translation of shapes.



Use of the calculator.



Shapes/nets.



Perimeter/area.



Averages – median, mode, mean.

Spelling – reinforcement of common strategies.



Practical maths challenges.

Reading – ‘Goodnight Mr. Tom.’

Volume.

In addition to revision, some of the work covered in Literacy this half term will include Various texts – information, poetry, leaflets, drama, balanced arguments. Non-narrative and narrative scripts developing purpose and organization, punctuation and style of writing.
