Stormy Seas Year 8 Homework Project Your homework project for this unit of study is to develop your knowledge of Assessment Objective 4 (literature) and develop your knowledge of Elizabethan society and contextual evidence. You will be compiling a fact file and creative folder that examines the time and place that Shakespeare composed The Tempest. Each task should take you a minimum of a week. For a complete project you must complete all of the following tasks:
TASK ONE: Research The Globe theatre. What did the theatre look like? Who attended plays there? What was the theatre going experience like? You must complete a representation of The Globe (illustration, model, anything you want). TASK TWO: You are going to become an expert in any Shakespearean play (not The Tempest). That play is about to be performed at The Globe and you are in charge of advertising. You must design a poster for this play that includes one main image from the play, date, time, price and any other information you feel is relevant. TASK THREE: Storyboard – design a storyboard for the play you have chosen to research. You must have minimum of 6 cells and maximum of 8 cells. TASK FIVE: Discover the most famous scene from your chosen play. We have many examples of modernised versions of Shakespearean plays (Ten Things I Hate About You, She’s the Man). You must modernise your chosen scene in proper play writing format. The events and names must be the same but you are to write in modern English. TASK FOUR: Choose one of the following Elizabethan playwrights and complete a biography of that person. You must include detailed sections on his; life, plays, style influences, wealth, death, list of plays, poems etc. This can be in PowerPoint, Prezi, Timeline or any other format you choose. o Christopher Marlowe o John Fletcher o Francis Beaumont o Ben Jonson o Thomas Kidd TASK SIX: Elizabethans lived a very different lifestyle than we do in 2016. Imagine you are a person living in the 16th century. Write a journal entry from the perspective of someone living during this time. You can choose to write from the perspective of a high or low class citizen but you must write one side of A4.
All parts of this project must be compiled into a single package and can be written in whichever format you feel is the most effective (booklet, PowerPoint, poster, case file envelope).
