St Margaret’s School Year 9 Revision Workshop/Pre-GCSE Study Skills – Wednesday 9th May 2018 For many years Linda Greetham, a specialist in teaching study skills, has come into the school to offer a day’s training designed to help the girls adopt useful study habits and attitudes in preparation for their GCSEs. Many of the girls took part in her Year 7 course and this is a follow up to that. Details of the course are outlined below: Introduction  Set aims  Overall concerns  Set agenda Memory and Revision  Memory tests  What is revision? A definition  Key points - active/ongoing/regular  Memory tests  How to establish long term retention  Different techniques  Variety of techniques tried and evaluated using own notes/materials.  Consolidate own topic to produce a set of summary notes  Planning your revision, examples of planners  Creating a workable revision timetable  How to learn  MUR - Motivation, Understanding, Repetition Conclusion  Final activity  Check aims  Evaluations There is an extra charge of £45.00 for this and it is not compulsory, but may be useful for the girls as it may give them new insights and ideas for approaching their work. Girls not taking part will follow a normal day at the school.
