Sample Speech Only – DO NOT COPY Good afternoon/evening, ladies and gentlemen. My name is ___________. I am ___ years old and I am in the ___ grade at ___________ in ________. I’ve been a Scout for ___ years and I am presently a ___________ Scout in Pack/Troop ___, which meets at ___________ in ________. I am so thrilled to be here representing the more than 46,000 youth members in the Greater New York Councils, Boy Scouts of America programs. Today, I would like to talk to you a little about Scouting and what it means to me. Scouting is a program that brings children, teens, and adults from different backgrounds together with the purpose of experiencing life in a positive way. Yet, Scouting is more than that to me. Scouting has given me the opportunity to ______________________, make many new relationships, develop self-confidence and to become more invested and committed to my community.
While in the Scouts, we are given the chance to participate in many community service projects in our neighborhood. Recently, my Troop/Pack and I _______________. I especially loved participating in this service project because _______________. Through Scouting, I have been given the opportunity to learn many new and exciting things I may not have had the chance to otherwise. Through these experiences, I have been introduced to ______________________ and I learned that ______________________. My most memorable experience of being in the Boy Scouts has been ______________________. It taught me and my Troop/Pack about ___________, ___________ and ___________. How many people can say ______________________? I can. I enjoyed ______________________. These are the kind of experiences which kids my age, and many adults, have never had the opportunity to enjoy. Since becoming a Scout, I have also enjoyed the opportunity to trade in our city’s high-rise buildings, traffic and noise for the
peaceful tranquility of summer camp at ___________ in ___________. I love it there! At camp we work on a lot of merit badges. My favorite merit badge that I have earned is the ___________. It is my favorite badge because ___________. Because of my Scout experiences learning how to ___________, I now know that earning merit badges can help me build self-esteem, develop many new life skills that I will carry with me as I grow older and that I can achieve wonderful things through hard work and dedication. In reality, you can say that merit badges and Scouting are helping pave the way of my future and will forever be a part of my life. As I hope you can see, Scouting is helping me grow into a mature, responsible and well-rounded young adult. I have made many new friends, learned new and exciting skills and have become a better son, friend, neighbor and citizen. My experiences in Scouting wouldn’t be possible without your support. I would like to congratulate ___________ and ___________, who are being honored here today with the “Good
Scout” award, for their dedication to young people like me. Their support of the Boy Scouts of America provides opportunities to us Scouts with positive development, experiences and guidance. Thank you all for being great role models that help shape our future. On behalf of all the boys and girls in the character and life skills programs of the Greater New York Councils, Boy Scouts of America, thank you for your investment in me. (Salute crowd)
