At first, we need to lay out our foundation before we start writing! While not the most exciting thing in the world, a TOC is crucial and something that must be done.
We will now need to find our topic: • Topic Assigned by Contract - Usually very well paid jobs, most of the time the topic will be provided for you • Publishing yourself – If you are going down this route, you will need to do your own research to make sure it’s a profitable topic as well as something people will be interested in learning about.
Sources for Knowledge: There are many sources you can go to. It’s important to visit as many of these as needed, because they all can contain crucial info. The 4 main sources we will focus on are: • • • •

Out of the 4 main sources, Google scholar is a very powerful and overlooked resource that many people miss out on!
Organization: Being organized is important to have great success. You need to make sure that you are organized beforehand, so that you can keep focused and make sure your productivity is high. There are a few tools we can use for this: • Xmind

Creating a great Table Of Contents In order to start writing a great TOC, it’s important to first look at the category or topic. A good way of doing this is finding the top 5 books on Amazon. You can then begin by looking at each table of content and start drawing up your own mind map. It is also helpful to look at the book reviews to get some ideas for what the customers like and what possible improvements the books need. Then, you can read the product descriptions to find key promises and figure out what people are looking for. This entire process is very fast and shouldn’t take more than 30 minutes to do and by doing it; it will give you a clear picture for your mindmap.

Extended Content If you are working on extended content for a contract (something like a longer clickbank product) it would be wise to do much more research). There needs to be a significant amount of content for the project you will be doing. The first place that is good to research would be the product sales page on places like: ClickBank CJ and similar places online Things like the keywords, promises, bonuses and hooks will help you with your own sales process.
Further research on Google Scholar Google scholar is an underappreciated resource. There are many recent articles to choose from which can apply to your own topic. The material is usually fresh, something you can quote as well which would then give more validity to your own statements. It’s a very powerful tool to utilize for yourself, which many other writers do not.

Forum Research Another method which many people don’t utilize for ideas and research are forums. Forums are a great way to find the latest trending topics in your niche. Start out with finding 1-5 forums related to your topic and once inside, look for questions, topics, threads and posts which get brought up continuously or that get the most views and/or replies.
You will want to see what people’s pains and needs are. Understanding what your audience wants to hear is important and this will help you implement the solutions in your project. It will really help you to connect with your audience which is very important. Jonathan Green – www.ServeNoMaster.com

Mindmapping After you gather the information, the work on your mind map can begin. Making your TOC free form is important as it will allow for some breathing room. You can begin by using all the info gathered to create your first layer in your mind map. Most of the first layer will consist off your main TOC. The layers beneath will be much bigger in scope, things like chapters, sections and any specific research and references that will be added. Don’t be tempted to follow somebody else’s table of contents because there work and writing style will be different to yours. Mind mapping is great because of how quickly you can adapt new ideas.
Organize the TOC Once your table of contents is complete, you can begin to create a structure that you would like to have. Once you are ready, you can send your table of contents to the client who may or may not re-order it, depending on their needs. Remember that the order of your TOC is not set in stone as you may have to adjust things based on your client’s feedback. This gives you a lot of breathing room.

Feedback If you are working on a ghostwriting project, or a long project, your client’s feedback will be crucial. They will immediately let you know any big topics they were hoping to see, and this will give you the opportunity to go out and do additional research before adding it in. It may be something very niche, and it’s usually common. If you decide to work on your own, you can always get a family member, a co-worker, a friend or a spouse to look provide you with any feedback. It’s essential to find honest people who can provide you with very nice and simple feedback.
Activity Your activity for this module will be as follows: • Try and experiment with the mind mapping software Play around with the mind mapping software, you can try Xmind since its free, but you can also try any other software based on your own preference. • Make a practice Table Of Contents Make a simple TOC from your choice of 5 books that you find on the Amazon Kindle marketplace. Something like nursing or law for example. See how much time it takes you to create one just to get an idea. You should also attempt to go deeper and create an extensive TOC from the activities listed above like sales page research on clickbank, forum research and looking into Google scholar. This shouldn’t take you more than an hour to do however it will give you a deeper understanding of your topic and the entire process so next time it can be done much faster.
