LONG OR SHORT… Let’s delve into the question of “is it better to write long or short” Most freelancers are usually paid on a word to word basis. If English isn’t your native language, or if you struggle writing without errors, you can typically expect to earn a low amount, usually half a penny a word. On the flipside, if you are experienced and have a great reputation you can expect around 10 cents a word.

5 Non-Fiction Writing

Of course all of this is varied, prices usually fluctuate up and down and all of it is driven by a multitude of factors.

The usual “industry standard” is usually around 4 cents a word. Whilst this may appear low, if you are a fast writer it’s easy to make quite a bit of money very fast doing various small jobs. If you are a long writer you can expect to be paid much more due to the complexity and/or the length of the project. You can expect to earn upwards of $1000+ for your time and effort. In the end, it’s up for you to decide if you want to focus on long or short writing. Are you a person who is comfortable writing fast, focusing on different topics or are you a person who prefers to focus on one single thing and delve deep into one subject? It’s all up to you.

If you can figure out a number and how long it takes you to write that, i.e. 1000 words in 1 hour, then you can figure out how much you need to write and how much you can expect to earn for the time and effort you put into it. If you can figure out all of these details then you can easily create a great strategy to follow and start achieving your goals.
