Follow Jesus - Part 2 Mark 1:4-11

Questions for Further Reflection 1.

Read Mark 1:7-8. If you were to announce Jesus to your friends and family, what would you say? How would you describe Him?

Read Mark 1:9-11. Why did Jesus choose to be baptized?

3.

If you were at Jesus’ baptism, how do you think you would have reacted to what happened as Jesus came up out of the water?

Jesus is the only One worthy to be followed. (Mark 1:1-11) 

Jesus is both King and Servant. (Mark 1:1-3)



Jesus is the King and Servant superior to all others. (Mark 1:4-11) 

John declared Jesus’ superiority at His baptism. (Mark 1:4-8)

Overview of the Gospel of Mark 

God declared Jesus’ superiority at His baptism. (Mark 1:9-11)

Main Idea of Mark: Jesus Christ is the Son of God whose mission was to serve and to sacrifice His life for the restoration of humanity from the brokenness of sin. Main Application of Mark: We are invited to follow Jesus in service and sacrifice by discerning His person, accepting His mission, and being faithful to Him.

Follow Jesus – the only One worthy to follow!

Main Idea of series: A growing disciple follows Jesus in service and sacrifice to accomplish His mission. Outline: The Gospel of Mark in Three Acts 

Act One: Galilee – the person of Jesus (Mark 1:1-8:26) A Christ-follower discerns who Jesus is and surrenders to Him.



Act Two: On the way – the mission of Jesus (Mark 8:27-10:52) A Christ-follower understands and accepts Jesus’ mission.



Act Three: Jerusalem – Jesus’ mission fulfilled (Mark 11:1-16:8) A Christ-follower trusts Jesus and is faithful to Him.
