Siuslaw Youth Soccer Association General League Rules

Sportsmanship The definition of sportsmanship is “The conduct and attitude of participants in sports, especially when considered commendable as in fair play, courtesy, and grace in losing.” All coaches, players, parents, referees, and league officials will exhibit proper sportsmanship. Coaches are responsible for the proper conduct of their player. All referee decisions are final and are not challengeable by coaches, players, or parents. Questions of rule application should be raised (politely) AFTER the game or brought to the attention of a SYSA board member. Spectators (including players, coaches, and parents) are not permitted in the area behind the goal or past the end line. With the exception that one designated parent/assistant coach may serve as “goalie coach” at the U8 level only. Coaches are expected to enforce this rule with their players and family members. Teams must use only officially rostered players. If additional players are required to field a complete team, the coach must receive explicit approval from the opposing coach or league official prior to the start of the game. All players must be registered with SYSA. Borrowed players must be the same age or younger than the team’s age. Player Equipment All players on the field must wear matching uniforms (except goalkeeper) to the satisfaction of the referee. The goalkeeper’s uniform must be different from the opposing keeper, all other players on the field and the referee. If a player forgets his uniform a similar color jersey to his team may be allowed if permitted by the referee, opposing coach or a board member. A player may not wear or use any equipment that is dangerous to himself or another player. The referee’s decision (or coach) decision is conclusive. No hard casts will be permitted without written parental and medical consent, issued to the coach and a board member. The referee may withdraw approval for a player to participate while wearing protective equipment if the referee finds the protective equipment is being used in a way that endangers the safety of any players. No jewelry is permitted, even if taped. Shin guards covered by socks are mandatory in all games and practices.

Injuries Any player suspected of having sustained a concussion must be immediately removed from play and kept out for the remainder of the game. The parents must be notified and the player must be referred to a physician for evaluation. The player will not be allowed to return to practice (or games) until given explicit permission to do so from a qualified medical professional in writing. If warranted, the coach will seek immediate medical attention for the player. Cleanliness Pick up all trash around field area. Coaches are responsible for making sure fields are picked up of trash, portable goals are taken down and all equipment is removed at the end of each game. Coaches may appoint a parent or volunteer to assist with these tasks. Start times Teams are expected to arrive early enough to start the game at the scheduled time. Games will be delayed no more than 5 minutes for delinquent players or coaches.
