FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE September 12, 2016 1,000 Students Receive their High School Equivalency Education through Vegas PBS Vegas PBS Celebrates Educational Victory for Southern Nevada (Las Vegas) – Starting with its first days as a broadcaster in 1968, Vegas PBS has provided lifelong educational opportunities to viewers of all ages. Vegas PBS has since extended those opportunities outside of television programming and into the classrooms with adult education and high school degree programs. Through its Global Online Advanced Learning (GOAL) adult education program, Vegas PBS is proud to announce 1,000 students have passed all five of their required tests to receive the High School Equivalency Certification. The station provides students with the option to go through the high school equivalency process by taking up to four of the tests online. Vegas PBS has also monitored closely the students who chose to take all five of their exams in Vegas PBS’ GOAL Testing Center, the computerized test center for the Clark County School District’s Adult Education Program. Since the launch of the testing center in 2014, Vegas PBS has administered 7,244 exams to 1,214 individuals. Each person is allotted three tries per each individual test. The students who have taken and passed all five tests are now eligible to move forward with their educational and career endeavors. GOAL graduates range in age from 16 to 68. Vegas PBS administers two computer-based exams to individuals aspiring to obtain a Nevada State Certificate of High School Equivalency with the High School Equivalent Test (HiSET) and Test Assessing Secondary Completion (TASC). Each test covers five core subjects: math, reading, writing, social studies and science.
