Congratulations Ashley ! What a huge accomplishment! Ashley just brought this wine in for us to taste and we all fell in love with it. We have another label from Château Saint Jacques in our “ 2fer $20” at the front of the store that is 60% Syrah, 30% Grenache and 10% Mourvèdre whereas the “Le Château” is 60% Grenache and 40% Syrah. As a result the wine is softer and a little more elegant on the palate. Château Saint Jacques d’Alba was bought in 2001 and organic farming practices were implemented on the existing vineyards. The attention turned to quality and vineyards were replanted with the proper varietals for the soil types. The Château keeps yields low, destems grapes by hand and ferments the wine traditionally in a hands off approach. The Grenache and Syrah are aged separately in oak for a year and then blended to the winemaker’s preference. This wine is beautifully earthy with notes of cedar, smoke, and baking spices. Dried flower, mushroom, and blackberries come through on the palate with a slight black pepper note. Integrated tannins and bright acidity round out the frame work for this wine and make it incredibly versatile for food pairings. This is a perfect wine for fall weather and roasted Reg. $15.99 dishes! Cheers!

Sattlerhof Sauvignon blanc
First off… Congrats Ashley!! So I love presenting you all with some different expressions of Sauvignon Blanc as you have seen. This Sattlerhof Sauvignon Blanc from Austria is a very welcome version of what is generally perceived as a grapefruit punch on the face. I found mango, melon and guava balanced with a good minerality and lemon zest that went perfectly with the grilled chicken we had for dinner. I would also pair this wine with fish tacos, rice and asparagus for an easy meal that’s packed with flavor! The Sattlerhof is entirely a family affair, being run mostly be the two brothers Willi and Hannes Sattler. These boys really focus on tradition but also have a good mind for innovation in wine and this shows clearly in this beautiful Sauvignon Blanc. The 40 hectares of vineyards are located on a steep slope just south of Gamlitz and overlook the picturesque countryside of Southern Styria. The tradition that the family instills in their winemaking is that of biodynamics and caring for the land as natural as possible accompanied by staying on the cusp of industry trend and innovative methods that keep everyone in the business on Reg. $21.99 their toes. -Cheers

Finding a good value Pinot Noir these days is becoming more and more difficult. A difficult and finicky grape, it takes a lot of care and concern to grow well and produce good wine. A lot of the time, inexpensive versions are either thin and underripe or sappy and unbalanced. So, I was really blown away last week when I tasted this gorgeous wine from an area one would usually look past when searching for Pinot Noir. The Languedoc is typically known for its big, structured, meaty wines based on Syrah, Carignan, and Mourvedre, but in the southwestern town of Limoux, some very interesting things are happening apart from the fizzy wines it is known for. Still wines are becoming increasingly important and a small group of individual producers, some of them outsiders like James and Catherine Kinglake of Domaine Begude, is making some very fine wines exhibiting the balance and finesse that the international market seeks. The Kinglakes came from Britain, escaping the financial world in pursuit of their dream to make wine in the Limoux hills that are highly suitable for Pinot Noir. As a result, they have to be sold as Vin de Pays, but don’t let that deter you. This refined and low production Pinot Noir from organically farmed vines has all the classic style you are looking for. Cherry and darker pitted fruits find balance with savory herbs and earthy tones, and its silky sleek style on the palate makes it a great wine for a wide variety of meals.
