12th September 2017 Winyates News Wow! What a fantastic start to the new school year we have had...I have been welcomed into the school by everyone: staff, children and parents and the children are busy helping me learn their many names. It is lovely to see that everyone looks so smart in their uniforms and during assembly I have been greeted with a ‘sea of purple school jumpers’! I am sure you have heard about our new style of lunches. We have changed the hall around and teachers and teaching assistants are having lunch with their class (and serving the food at the tables). This is making our dining hall much calmer and a nicer place to eat. We are delighted with the way it is going and I would like to thank everyone for their hard work in making the change. Walking around the classes, I have seen lots of work going on already and I am delighted to have had many ‘Celebration Cards’ to sign before the children have taken them home to you. It is lovely to read about all the amazing work and thoughtful things the children do. I cannot wait to see what next week will bring! Mrs D Bowles Head of School Year 4 The Monkeys The Monkey class have made a fantastic start of Year 4 and they are all engaged in their learning. Everyone has shown a willingness to take on new concepts and push themselves in their
learning. During our first half term we will be learning the following: Mathematics—place value, working on four digit numbers. Literacy –writing a letter and a story based on the Vikings. Topic –Vikings. Science –electricity and discovering how it works and the effect it has on us. There is a lot more that we will be learning about and if you wish to know more, please visit the school website in the coming days. Community Information We have been advised by the NHS that there is now an Extended Hours GP Service opportunity in Peterborough for children to see a doctor on an evening between 6.30pm and 8.30pm and every Saturday and Sunday between 9.00am and 5.00pm. The service will benefit both the school and the parents/carer:
Accessible appointments outside of school hours, therefore less disruptive for child being taken out of school.
Working parents do not need to take time off, therefore causing less stress with employers.

Reception The Busy Bees The ‘busy bees’ have had a great start to their first year in school. We have settled really well in to school life and have had great fun exploring the activities within our classroom and outdoor area during busy bee time. We have started to make new friends and can’t wait for the rest of our friends to join us next week. We have also been learning how to use the snack room safely, we even wash up our own things once we have finished. We are getting use to the routines and are super listeners on the carpet. We enjoyed playing ‘across the river’ yesterday and listening out for animal sounds. Just a reminder to parents that your child can go outside whenever they want to so please make sure they have a coat in school as the weather is very unpredictable at the moment. Your child will be coming home with their first reading book very soon so watch this space!
Year 1 The Bears All of the children have made a fantastic start to Year 1, managing the step up from Reception with ease.
