HOW TO GROW

There are two ways to grow these fragrant beauties Outdoor sowing – in April/May, choose a sunny, sheltered spot, against a fence or wall is ideal. Digging in some organic manure or garden compost prior to sowing will improve the flowering performance. Prepare by raking moist soil to a fine, crumbly surface and sow the seeds individually 1cm (½”) deep and 23cm (9") apart, covering lightly. Indoor sowing – for earlier flowering, sow Feb/Mar indoors using 10cm (4") pots and a quality, moist compost. Maintain a temperature of 15-20°C (60-68°F) until germination and then 15°C thereafter in good light. Acclimatise plants prior to planting out. Alternatively seed can be sown in Sept/Oct for early flowering the following year over-wintering in a cold frame or greenhouse. Soaking seed overnight in water prior to sowing may improve germination. When the plants have grown 3-4 pairs of true leaves, pinch out the growing tips to encourage more shoots and flowers. As the plants grow and climb, they will need the support of canes, netting, trellis etc. Height approx. 1. 8m (6')

No garden is complete without the beautiful scent and colours of Sweet Peas. White Ensign – beautifully scented, large flowers in a classic pristine white.
