Brief history of the building Number 15 Market Place (Symonds House) was built around 1750 and was the house of the town's principal lawyer. Number 15a was built later (between 1800 and 1806) as an office wing to No 15. It remained in use as a solicitor's office for over 160 years. In the 1960s 15a was split off from the adjoining house and was given a small single storey extension at the rear to be used as a dwelling. The original building fell into disrepair and was eventually bought in 1985 by the Derbyshire Historic Buildings Trust who undertook the repairs desperately needed and completed restoration in Spring 1986. The current owners have been in possession of the property since 2006. They had alterations done to make it what it is today.
