Standards Guide For Athletic Wear And Related Apparel
Background In fifty years, Bishop Kelley has seen its school name presented on sportswear, caps, dress shirts, T-shirts, warmups, sweatshirts, and specialty items in countless variations. Some have been short-lived, some have stuck, and some probably never should have seen the light of day. Having standards for use of the Bishop Kelley name and logo will enhance the school’s branding efforts from now until it is decided that the new logo is out of date. To help simplify the understanding and implementation of acceptable standards for athletic wear and related apparel (e.g., coaches’ team shirts, cheerleading uniforms, and certain spirit wear), we offer the following guide.
Team Game Uniforms There have been a number of uniform styles that Bishop Kelley athletes have worn over the years, and certain established styles are well recognized and should remain. These include the following: Comets:
Kelley:
Bishop Kelley:
Bishop Kelley Comets (logo):
Cheerleading/pep squad uniforms have two current variations that are both acceptable:
If funding permits someday, it is recommended to replace the “K” in the cheer uniform with the block “BK” that is discussed later in this guide. The current soccer uniforms have variations of the most recent school logo. The boys’ uniform has the logo with the interlocking “BK” and the girls’ uniform has “Bishop Kelley” above the school crest (see below).
It is recommended that if the soccer teams want to keep this same look, then the new Bishop Kelley logo should be on the uniform front instead—preferably placed further away from the Adidas logo than they are now. Variations of the school name on team uniforms—which have been used in the past but are no longer acceptable—include:
• Bishop K
• Bishop
• Tulsa Kelley
• T Kelley
• Kelley Comets
Helmets and caps should have either the established block “K” or block “BK” on them, or they can remain logo-less as they are now.
Coach/Assistant Coach/Booster Club Wear For polo shirts (worn by coaches, faculty, and BK supporters like Booster Club members), warmups, caps, and practice jerseys, we recommend never using “Kelley” by itself. It should always be “Bishop Kelley.” These rules should generally apply to all official apparel. Any “unofficial” apparel that is created by the different school organizations—a special T-shirt for Kairos, pep club, drama club, etc.—should also avoid using “Bishop K,” “Bishop,” or the other variations now deemed unacceptable. “Kelley” by itself should also be avoided, unless it is for a special occasion, e.g., a spirit shirt for a particular game, to mark an event such as a retreat, or is considered established spirit wear (e.g., “Kelley Fire Department”). Anything sold in the bookstore would be considered “official” apparel subject to the parameters stated above. We recommend that a committee consisting of faculty members be in charge of overseeing the graphic standards for all new uniforms and apparel.
Bishop Kelley Comets Logo May be used on ball caps, practice jerseys, team jerseys, or on the pocket area of a polo shirt. If a coach wants to use this logo on a polo shirt and beneath it put “Volleyball,” for example, the word “Volleyball” should be in all caps, centered and use the Trade Gothic Bold Extended font (see figure 1a). When embroidered on shirts, “Bishop Kelley” may be omitted because of its small size in relation to “Comets.” Otherwise, the logo should remain intact. In special cases, as in last year’s Kelley-McGuinness rivalry T-shirt, it is OK to separate the comet flame art to be used in a different context (see figure 1b).

New Bishop Kelley Logo In marketing applications, including ads, website and brochures, this logo should usually include the tagline “A Life Preparatory School” (see figure 2a).
Used on apparel, however, the tagline should not be included.
If a coach would like to have this new logo on a cap or polo shirt with the team sport listed beneath, the sport should be in all caps, centered and use the Trade Gothic Bold Extended font (see figure 2b). The logo with the cross should be used together at all times. Never separate the cross to use as a mark, or combine the cross with the Bishop Kelley Comets logo. The new logo should always be placed horizontally, never vertically, e.g., running up and down the leg of warmup pants. When embroidered, the spaces in the cross should be stitched in a thread matching the color of the shirt, or ideally not stitched at all.

Backgrounds/Usage With Graphics The new logo should always be placed against a plain background, e.g., not over a graphic of a football or baseball. See the next section, “Blocked Letters,” for acceptable use of graphics with the school name.
Blocked Letters When “Bishop Kelley” is in plain text form, an all caps block type treatment should be used. The font for this block type is Glypha LT 75 Black. There are a variety of acceptable ways to use the block BISHOP KELLEY or traditional block BK on athletic and spirit wear. On a shirt pocket, front of a shirt or sweatshirt (including hoodies or warmups), it can appear horizontally, or stacked, or accompanied by either the type of team sport or a symbol representing the sport (see figure 3a), e.g.:
• BK Basketball
• BISHOP KELLEY
• BISHOP KELLEY Football
• BISHOP KELLEY (football graphic)
The font for the sport name should be Trade Gothic Bold Extended and should be in all caps and centered when placed beneath BK or BISHOP KELLEY (see figure 3b).

Bishop Kelley Crest It is acceptable to use the Bishop Kelley crest, but not in tandem with the new Bishop Kelley logo or the Bishop Kelley Comets logo. The girls’ soccer team currently uses the old Bishop Kelley logo with the crest beneath. If they want to continue using the crest, it should only be used in tandem with:
• BISHOP KELLEY (block letters)
• BISHOP KELLEY COMETS (block letters)
• COMETS (block letters)
• BK (block letters)
This application of the crest applies primarily to team uniforms, with the exception of the block letters BK or BISHOP KELLEY, which can accompany the crest on sweatshirts, coaches’ polo shirts or other spirit wear. NOTE: The Bishop Kelley Comets logo and the term COMETS, either in block letters or in cursive like the cheerleader uniforms, should be reserved for athletic wear only, primarily team uniforms, and athletic- or Booster Club-related items such as bumper stickers.

BK Mark We recommend that the black-and-red BK mark from the most recent logo be discontinued for use in sportswear and apparel (see figure 4a). While it exists in “established” form in places such as the wrestling room and on certain apparel, future placement of this mark is not recommended.

Color Coordination See diagram below for acceptable logo color usage. The red used in the logo is Pantone 1807 or 4-color value C: 0, M: 100, Y: 96, K: 28. When placing the new logo on a colored shirt, the logo should be one color (black) or reversed out of darker colors.
