SOWING AND GROWING

Sow thinly into finely raked, warm, moist soil at a depth of 13mm (½") in rows 30cm (12") apart. Germination 10-28 days. Thin seedlings to 15cm (6") between plants. Grows best in well cultivated soil which has not recently been manured. Ideally lift roots when required as frosts sweeten the flavour. In severe weather cover tops with 75mm (3") straw, or lift some roots and store in boxes of sand or soil. Sowing ➞ Cropping – 28-32 weeks.
