COASTAL CLEAN UP SCS students and staff spent Thursday morning cleaning up the Hendrick’s Head Beach. We logged all the items we found and sent the totals in to the State. They found lots of cigarette butts, plastic rope, a glove, a sock, a pen, bottle caps. The biggest thing we found was part of a small row boat.

Have you ever pictured yourself driving a school bus? Would you like to learn more about it? Along with many districts in Maine, our school district has a need for bus drivers, especially those interested in doing so occasionally, just on Southport, or perhaps only to sporting events. If you want to know more about it, contact me (Lisa Clarke) at 633-3132 or [email protected] With this shortage, we are likely to experience a time when we on Southport do not have a driver. In a case like this, you are likely to receive a message through Instant Alert, the same way you would be notified of a school cancellation or delay. We hope this is not the case, but it’s important that you are made aware of this possibility.

Thank you Angel Ames We extend A BIG THANK YOU to Angel Ames, who volunteered to take over the return of our bottles and cans collected here at school. We are VERY grateful for her tireless efforts to support us in this manner, which has brought in a significant amount of money for our school. That being said, the job is too big for any one person and we are hoping to set up a schedule of volunteers who will help to get this job done. If we have enough people, it is likely that you would be collecting the bags of bottles and cans here and turning them in at the Clynk site at Hannaford, perhaps only once a week during most of the school year. If you would be kind enough to help with this, please call or email Mrs. Higgins to let her know of your interest. Another way we are hoping to streamline this job is by changing the way we are collecting redeemable bottles and cans and we ask that you help us spread the word. Hopefully by the first of next week, you will be able to drop off your bagged bottles and cans at the school, and pick up a Clynk bag (or two) to take home for future use. Please see the following for more information. Thank you to the many parents who joined us for our annual Open House on Tuesday night. It's great to start the school year with a gathering of this sort, allowing time for parents to see their children's work and to have a chance to speak with his or her teachers. As always, we encourage you to contact us with any questions or concerns you may have.

DIRECTIONS FOR USING CLYNK BAGS FOR YOUR REDEEMABLE BOTTLES AND CANS

1. First of all, thank you for supporting our school, and helping to keep Southport Island clean. 2. Please take a Clynk bag (or 2) to fill with your redeemable bottles and cans. Please take note of the fill line. 3. Return your Clynk-filled bag(s) to this receptacle and take a new bag. 4. Continue the cycle.
