FALL 2011

1st and 2nd Graders LEARNER GUIDE

God Created Everything   Everything was dark. Then God made light. God called the light “day” and the darkness “night.” That was the first day.   On the second day, God put the water all in one place. He put the sky above the water.   On the third day, God separated the land from the seas.   Then God made trees, grass, flowers, and vegetables.   On the fourth day, God said, “I will make lights in the sky.” He made the sun and the moon and all the stars.

On the fifth day, God made fish. Then God made the birds in the sky.   On the sixth day, God made the animals and insects. And He made people.   God looked at the world. He looked at everything He had made. God liked it. So on the seventh day, God rested. —Genesis 1:1–2:3

Sweet Potato

I Can Care for God’s World!

God made the world, and He wants us to care for it. Finish each picture that shows a way you can care for part of God’s creation.

Cut a piece from the pointed end of a sweet potato. Push several toothpicks into the potato around the middle. Place the sweet potato in a clear glass, resting on the toothpicks. (The cut end should be pointing down.) Put water in the glass to cover the bottom of the potato. Keep the glass in a dark area until the potato begins to grow roots. Then put the glass in a bright location.

Plant Cuttings Place plant cuttings in a clear bottle. Put water in the bottle to cover the bottom of the plants. Place the bottle in a dark area until the cuttings begin to grow roots. Then put the bottle in a bright location. Bible Teaching for Kids 1st and 2nd Graders Learner Guide © 2011 LifeWay Christian Resources of the Southern Baptist Convention.
