LADY EAGLES SOFTBALL – 2008

Softball – Head Coach Andy Lee ANDY LEE is embarking on his third season as head softball coach of the Lady Eagles, and seventh year overall with the Hinds Athletic Department. Lee spent four seasons, 2001-2005, as the pitching coach for the Eagle baseball team. As pitching coach, Lee led the Eagles' pitchers to many school records. In 2002, the Eagles' pitchers led the nation in team earned run average, tallying a 2.37 mark. Also in 2002, the Eagles' pitchers broke the team record for strikeouts, producing an unprecedented 368 strikeouts for the duration of regular season play. Nine of Lee's players received scholarships to four-year colleges and universities during his four years as the Eagles' pitching coach. In 2006, Lee's first year at the helm of the softball program, his team made a remarkable improvement from the previous year. The 2005 edition won only five games, but in Lee's first year alone, the Lady Eagles improved their win total by 17 games. They finished the year 22-24, and earned a lot of respect around the league. These achievements also caught the eyes of local seniors, as Lee signed 13 players to scholarships for the 2007 season. The 2007 campaign proved to be a remarkable one for the Lady Eagles, as they finished with a 33-21 overall record. Hinds finished as the runner-up in the state tournament and placed third in the Region XXIII tournament. Lee's record stands as 55-45, translating into a .550 winning percentage after two seasons. Lee is a 1993 graduate of Woodlands Hills Academy in Jackson. The Raymond native is also a former Hinds alum, competing on the 1994 and 1995 Hinds World Series baseball teams. He then moved on to Delta State University, where he was able to achieve much success. The lefty was a two-time All-Gulf South Conference member as a starting pitcher. Lee then finished his career in the Boston Red Sox minor league organization. Lee also previously served as the head baseball coach at Canton Academy. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Delta State University and is currently working on his Master's degree at Jackson State University. He is married to the former Leslie Walsh of Clinton. They have two children, a son Logan, who is 4, and a daughter, Alayna, who will be a year old in January. Thoughts on the previous year: "We had a tremendous season in 2007. Our girls came so close to winning a championship, and I was very proud of them for all they accomplished." Thoughts on the upcoming year: "We have a good group of incoming talent to go along with a great group of sophomores. We have a lot of team speed that plays good defense. This team has been working very hard in the offseason and hope to improve on 2007."
