This Week’s Opponent at a Glance Regis University • 12-9 overall, 10-3 RMAC • Defeated Metro State 3-0 earlier this season • Located in Denver, Colo. • Regis has not won at Metro State since 1999

This Week: The Metro State volleyball will travel to No. 5 Nebraska-Kearney. The last time Metro State played on a Sunday was against No. 1 Nebraska-Kearney on Nov. 13, 2005. UNK won 3-0. Scouting the Opponent: Regis: The Rangers are 12-9 overall and 10-3 in the RMAC, but fell in five sets to Adams State on Saturday after winning the first two sets. That loss snapped a three-match winning streak. Jessica Howe is the leader offensively, averaging 3.64 kills. Lyz Kann is second on the team with 2.10 kills per set. Devin Eckhardt averages 10.14 assists, while Cassidee Young leads the team with a 4.18 dig average. As a team, Regis hits .190, while allowing its opponents a .172 hitting percentage. Nebraska-Kearney: The Lopers open the week on a 17-match winning streak and 23-1 overall and 13-0 in the RMAC. UNK has lost a total of 10 sets all season, with its only loss coming 3-1 to Ferris State. Three players average over 3.0 kills, led by Nikki Scott at 3.28, Chelsie Carson at 3.13 and Erica Burson at 3.05. Scott is hitting .421 for the season and also averages 0.88 blocks. Setter Cola Svec averages 11.67 assists and libero Katlyn Heiserman averages 4.04 digs. All-Time Series Records: Regis: Metro State trails the all-time series 40-39 after getting swept at Regis earlier this fall. However, Metro State leads 23-13 in matches played at home and has won the past 12 home meetings between the two schools, dating back to 2000. Nebraska-Kearney: Metro State trails the all-time series 28-14 after falling 3-1 at home to the Lopers earlier this year. UNK leads 14-3 in matches played in Kearney, including nine in row since 2003. Metro State has lost the past five meetings between the two schools and 14 of the past 15. Watanabe Breaks Digs Record: Senior libero Amy Watanabe broke the Metro State career digs record on Thursday, Oct. 1, against New Mexico Highlands with 10 digs. She needed eight to tie the record and had just three entering the third set, but dug up seven balls in the final set to lead the Roadrunners to a sweep.

Curtis in Top-10 in Career Assists: Gabe Curtis is currently sixth in Metro State’s alltime list of assist leaders with 2,911 set assists. Devon Herron (2000-03) is the career leader with 6,286. The Roadrunners’ No. 23 ranking on Aug. 31 was the first national ranking for Metro State since the being ranked No. 25 on Sept. 5, 2005. Metro State has received votes four times since then (Sept. 12, 2005; Aug. 21, 2006; Nov. 13, 2006; Nov. 20, 2006). Metro State is in the top-25 for the eighth week in a row, the longest streak in the poll for the Roadrunners since spending 46 consecutive weeks in the top-25 from the 2001 preseason poll through the Sept. 7, 2004, poll. Hendricks Hits Two Milestones: Head coach Debbie Hendricks reached her 200th win at Metro State on Saturday, Aug. 29 against No. 16 Florida Southern. She is in her 10th season at the helm of the Roadrunners volleyball program. On Saturday, Sept. 5, she won her 400th career match in a 3-2, come-from-behind thriller against No. 3 West Texas A&M. She became the 20th active NCAA Division II coach to reach 400 career wins. Hendricks was also recently inducted into West Texas A&M University’s Hall of Champions on Oct. 9. She coached six seasons at WTAMU, leading the Lady Buffs to a national championship in 1997 She compiled a 159-47 record during her tenure at WTAMU. Roadrunners Update: The Roadrunners had a perfect 3-0 week with

three sweeps on the road at Adams State, Western State and Colorado State-Pueblo. As a result, Metro State swept the RMAC weekly player of the week awards as Bri Morley was named Offensive Player of the Week, Amy Watanabe Defensive Player of the Week and Gabe Curtis Setter of the Week.

On Tuesday, Metro State overcame a 2-0 deficit to defeat Regis 3-2. It was the first time Metro State rallied after losing the first two sets since Sept. 30, 2004, at Adams State. Bri Morley had 21 kills and 11 digs. RMAC Players of the Week: Bri Morley was named RMAC Offensive Player of the Week on Aug. 31. In four matches at the St. Mary’s Invitational, Morley led Metro State with 4.08 kills/set, a total of 53 kills in 13 sets. She hit .370 (53k-9e-119a), while adding 17 digs and four blocks. She led the Roadrunners and their opponent in kills in each of the final three matches at the tournament. Morley was named RMAC Offensive Player of the Week again on Oct. 19 after she led the Roadrunners with 4.67 kills/set in the three matches, totaling 42 kills in nine sets. She also hit .379 (42-9-87) for the week, including tying a career-high mark at .500 (14-2-24) on Thursday, Oct. 15, at Adams State. She also was second on the team in digs, averaging 2.89 per set. Gabe Curtis was named RMAC Setter of the Week on Sept. 7 after finishing third among all setters at the tournament in assists per set, averaging 11.64 assists, a total of 163 in 14 sets played. She added eight kills, two service aces, 27 digs and six total blocks as well. Her setting helped the Roadrunners to a .200 hitting percentage (192-84-540) in four matches. Curtis earned the same honors again on Oct. 19 after she put together three excellent all-around matches from the setter position. She averaged 13.11 assists with 118 in nine sets. But she also had 10 kills, three aces and 21 digs, to go with six blocks. On Thursday, Oct. 15 at Adams State, she helped the team hit .410, its second-highest hitting percentage of the season, while dishing out 39 assists and adding five kills, nine digs, three blocks and two aces. Amy Watanabe earned RMAC Defensive Player of the Week honors on Sept. 7 after placing third among all players at the tournament in digs per set, averaging 4.93 digs, a total of 69 in 14 sets. She also had three assists, three aces, two kills and only two receiving errors all weekend. Opponents hit only .171 against Metro State (152-68-490). Watanabe earned RMAC Defensive Player of the Week honors again on Sept. 21 after totaling 47 digs in two matches over the weekend and averaged 5.88 digs per set in those two matches. She also had two assists. In Metro State’s 3-2 win over UC-Colorado Springs on Saturday, Watanabe had a career-high 37 digs, just four off the school record of 41. Her 37 digs tied her for the fourth-most in a single match in school history. She earned defensive player of the weeks for a third time on Oct. 19 after she was key in a strong defensive effort for the Roadrunners in each match. She averaged 5.00 digs, totaling 45 in nine sets for the week. She also had four assists and two aces and just two receiving errors in 60 attempts. Watanabe set a career-high for a three-set match with 20 digs on Saturday at Colorado State-Pueblo. Metro State held its opponents to just a .090 (92-63-322) hitting percentage in the three matches. The seven players of the week have already surpassed last

Debbie Hendricks, the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) Coach of the Year in 2001, 2002 and 2003, enters her 10th season as the head volleyball coach at Metro State in 2009. Hendricks ranked 20th among active NCAA Division II coaches in winning percentage (.703) and 20th in victories (393) entering the 2009 season. The longest tenured coach at Metro State, Hendricks has directed the Roadrunners to nine consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances and has a record of 197-85 (.699) in her nine seasons. The Roadrunners have won three RMAC regular season titles (2001, 2002, 2003) and four RMAC tournament titles (2001, 2002, 2003, 2006) under her tutelage. During her time at Metro State, Hendricks has coached six All-Americans, two RMAC Players of the Year, an RMAC Setter of the Year, an RMAC Defensive Player of the Year, three RMAC Freshmen of the Year and 14 all-region players. Prior to coming to Metro State, Hendricks coached at West Texas A&M from 1993-98 and led the Lady Buffs to the 1997 NCAA Division II national championship with a 37-3 record. Hendricks, who was named to the Lone Star Conference’s 75th anniversary all-sports team in April 2007 for her achievements at WTAMU, compiled a 159-47 (.772) record and coached four Lone Star Conference championship teams. The 1997 American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) NCAA Division II National Coach of the Year, Hendricks had two 30-plus win seasons in 1997 (37) and 1995 (30), and was named the 1997 and 1998 Lone Star Conference South Division Coach of the Year and the 1998 Panhandle Sports Hall of Fame Coach of the Year. She coached two All-Americans at WTAMU (Amanda Sweatt, Sarah Butler) and one AVCA National Player of the Year (Butler). Before her stint at West Texas A&M, Hendricks served as the first volleyball coach at Wayland Baptist University and developed the program from the ground up. In 1992, her second year at Wayland Baptist, Hendricks directed Wayland Baptist to a second-place district finish and a national ranking.

season’s total of one RMAC player of the week (Watanabe, Defensive POW, Oct. 13, 2008). On Oct. 19, Metro State had all three player of the week awards from the RMAC. This was just the second time since the 14-school conference went to the three award system in 2008 that a school has won all three awards. Nebraska-Kearney had all three awards on Sept. 28 this year. Colorado Premier Challenge: Metro State went 3-1 at the 2009 Colorado Premier Challenge to win the Silver Division championship. It was the best finish for Metro State at the Premier since going 3-1 and taking third place in the Gold Division in 2005. Senior setter Gabe Curtis earned all-tournament honors for the second time in her career. Honors & Awards: The awards and honors continue to pile up for Metro State volleyball players.
