Greetings and happy holidays from Positive Impact New York! This year-end report details our accomplishments in 2011 and looks forward to the future as Positive Impact New York continues to build on the success from last year. In the following pages, you will see the results of the hard work and dedication put forth by our staff, families and the community.!
!
Last year, we took a major step in strengthening our structure by hiring a program director for the Summer Skills Academy. We are pleased to introduce you to Mitchell Lane. Mitchell serves as a co-teacher at Albany Community Charter School which houses over 75% of our participants. As a father of three, Mitchell also understands responsibility and patience when it comes to dealing with our youth. We are excited about having Mitchell on board and assisting us in becoming one of the top youth programs in the Capital Region. Some of our accomplishments last year include: successfully hosting our 2nd Summer Skills Academy through a partnership with Albany Community Charter School and served a record 66 children; and strengthened our Board of Directors to 7 members who will continue to provide great leadership for the organization.!
!
Looking forward to the upcoming year, we are excited about expanding our program. We are introducing the “Positive Impact Projects.” The Positive Impact Projects will consist of two components: The Positive Impact Basketball Academy, Blackboards and Backboards, and the Capital District Classic. The Basketball Academy will provide skill development to student-athletes throughout the Capital Region from k-12 through rigorous basketball workouts designed to improve each player’s overall skills. Blackboards and Backboards will provide student-athletes in grades 8-12 with programs to assist them in the college recruiting process. Last but not least, the Capital District Classic will provide a platform to the top players in region in an all-star game setting. By expanding our programs, we are not only improving our community base, but are more importantly providing more meaningful outlets for our youth.!
!
In 2012, Positive Impact New York, Inc we will look to continue to improve ways to develop tomorrow’s leaders. To do this, we need your help. Whether it’s volunteering at our Summer Skills Academy, or sponsoring an event we will continue to scale Positive Impact New York with your support.!
!
I wish you all much happiness, great health and success in 2012. I am fortunate to serve you and our youth!!
!
Much Love,!
!

The Positive Impact Basketball Academy is designed to offer student-athletes in the Capital Region a specific training program for junior high, high school and college players. Our program is designed to meet the specific needs of a basketball player for skill development (ball-handling, shooting, defense, and overall basketball IQ) and performance enhancement (run faster and jump higher). If you want to become better, you have to dedicate time doing the things that will make you better. The extra time you spend in the gym can help your child make the team, propel you ahead of those who play in front of you, or it can set you apart as one of the best players in the city or your conference. Athleticism can make you a competitive player, but being fundamentally sound can increase your versatility and value.! For more information, contact Terrell Dozier @ (518) 227-0621.
Positive Impact New York, Inc. created “The Capital District Classic” to give Capital Region student-athletes a platform to showcase their talents. Some of the area’s top basketball players will participate in this annual event that promises to be around for years to come.! Positive Impact New York hopes that “The Capital District Classic” will ignite the energy and passion of youth basketball in the Capital Region and bridge the gap between the Capital Region’s basketball legacy and the current youth basketball experience while providing an improved platform for competition and exposure.
The Blackboards and Backboards program is designed to encourage excellence in sports as a way of encouraging and advancing excellence in academics, developing constructive personal goals and providing an extended family to assist student-athletes in becoming valuable contributors in their communities.

HALL OF FAME/ SPRINGFIELD COLLEGE TRIP! This past summer, Positive Impact took their annual end of summer trip to the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, MA. This day was special because the 2011 class was being inducted that same day. The campers were able to meet former Golden State Warrior great Chris Mullin and participate in a Nike basketball clinic. Prior to our visit to the Hall of Fame, we visited Springfield College, where we incorporated college tours with admissions officers and college coaches to provide greater exposure to the college.

We at Positive Impact New York are committed to developing the total student-athlete. Galal Cancer is the epitome of the total student-athlete. Galal was a two-time all-state selection at Christian Brothers Academy in Albany. He was the Albany Times Union and Troy Record area Player of the Year as a senior after averaging 13.0 points and 7.5 rebounds while shooting better than 85 percent from the free-throw line. He was the starting point guard on three sectional-title winning teams, two regional championship squads and a state title team (junior year). The conference player of the year in 2011, he was named to the News Channel 13 all-star team in his final two seasons, including being named Player of the Year as a senior. As a junior, Galal averaged 11.2 points and 7.6 rebounds in helping CBA to a state crown. He was named to the section alltournament team as a junior and was named MVP of the tourney in his final season. He was ranked among the top 150 high school players in the country at his position by ESPN.com.! Galal is a great example of a young man who was focused and committed to his goals. His focus turned into a full scholarship to Cornell University.
