THE WEEK AHEAD The Southern Connecticut State University women’s soccer team (8-4-3, 6-4-3 NE-10) will finish the regular season with two home games this week at Jess Dow Field. The Owls will host Assumption on Wednesday at 7 p.m. They will then host UMass-Lowell on Saturday at 2 p.m. SENIOR SENDOFF Prior to Saturday’s game against UMass-Lowell, the Owls will honor the five seniors on this year’s team - Julia Gotta, Brooke Madura, Lauren Muscarella, Kylie Rogers and Lisamarie Tarchini. LOOKING TO CLINCH A TOURNEY SPOT The Owls enter the week in eighth place in the Northeast-10 Conference with a 6-4-3 league mark and 21 points. The top eight spots earn a spot into the league tournament. SCSU can secure a spot in the field with a strong final week of the season. ALL-TIME VERSUS ASSUMPTION The Owls are 11-4-1 all-time against Assumption, including a 1-0 win last year. ALL-TIME VERSUS UMASS-LOWELL The Owls are 8-6-1 all-time against UMass-Lowell, including a 3-1 loss last year. DOMINANT ROAD WIN The Owls scored three first-half goals to defeat Bentley, 3-0, in Waltham, Mass. on Saturday. PIRES HAS BIG WEEK Suzane Pires scored three goals last week during a 1-1 week for the Owls. Pires scored one goal against No. 17 Saint Rose, and then two goals against Bentley. IN THE NSCAA REGIONAL RANKINGS The Owls are currently ranked sixth in the latest NSCAA East Region rankings. NICKERSON RANKS AMONG NCAA RANKINGS Freshman goalkeeper Elizabeth Nickerson was ranked among the NCAA Division II rankings, in games through Oct. 14. Nickerson ranked 15th in goals-against average with a 0.469 average. She also was ranked 19th in save percentage with a 0.882 average.

A LOT OF CLOSE GAMES THIS SEASON Fourteen of the 15 games this season for the Owls have either been ties or one goal decisions, with four double overtime contests. The lone exception came last time out in a 3-0 win over Bentley. DOWN TO THE WIRE The Owls played two double overtime games during the week of Sept. 26, both ties. Thus far, SCSU has played five overtime games this season, and is 1-1-3. TARCHINI NETS FIRST OF YEAR Lisamarie Tarchini notched her first goal in the Sept. 29 game against St. Anselm. JANNITTO SCORES GAME-WINNER Junior Janie Jannitto scored the eventual game-winning goal in the 79th minute, her first of the season, to lead the Owls to a 1-0 win at No. 16 Southern New Hampshire. FIRST COLLEGIATE GOAL Freshman Jessica Spezzano scored her first collegiate goal during the Owls’ win over Franklin Pierce, 2-1. THE CAPTAINS Seniors Kylie Rogers and Lisamarie Tarchini and junior Sarah Brochu will serve as team captains for the Owls this year. WELCOME TO THE CLUB The Owls welcomed 11 newcomers - Bobbi Bergstrom, Janie Jannito, Emily Lombardi, Jillian Newton, Elizabeth Nickerson, Kayla Orozco, Becca Scalise, Jessica Spezzano, Allison Vachon, Suzanne Heston and Ashley Russo - to the the squad. IN THE NE-10 PRESEASON POLL SCSU was selected fourth in the Northeast-10 Conference preseason poll, as voted by the league’s coaches. LOOKING BACK AT 2011 The Southern Connecticut State University women’s soccer team finished the year with an overall record of 10-5-3. The Owls were ranked as high as No. 25 in the nation in 2011 and made an appearance in the Northeast-10 Conference Tournament. In addition, Jacquelyn Fede was selected as both the NE-10 and ECAC Goalkeeper of the Year.

OWLS RANK AMONG NATION’S ELITE The Owls cracked the NSCAA Division II Top 25 poll during the 2011 season, ranking as high as No. 25. SHUTOUT PROMINANCE SCSU ranked No. 2 nationally in Div. II with a .722 shutout percentage in 2011. FOUR OWLS EARN ALL-REGION HONORS Jacquelyn Fede, Sarah Brochu, Jenna Mallico and Suzane Pires were all tabbed for All-Region accolades for their play during the 2011 season. SIX EARN ALL-CONFERENCE HONORS Jacquelyn Fede, Sarah Brochu, Jenna Mallico, Suzane Pires, Lisamarie Tarchini and Hannah Spreckley were all recognized by the Northeast-10 Conference for their play during the 2011 season. Fede, Brochu, Mallico, Pires and Tarchini earned All-Conference honors, while Spreckley was named to the All-Rookie Team. FOUR NAMED ALL-NEW ENGLAND Jacquelyn Fede, Sarah Brochu, Jenna Mallico and Suzane Pires were all selected All-New England for their play during the 2011 season. OWLS TIE PROGRAM RECORD The Owls opened up the 2011 season by recording seven consecutive shutouts, tying a program record set back in 2000. OWLS THRIVE INDIVIDUALLY IN THE CLASSROOM From the academic standpoint, the Owls were honored with the NSCAA Team Academic Award for the third year in a row. Jacquelyn Fede was named an Academic All-American, while Fede and Sarah Brochu both earned NE-10 Women’s Soccer All-Academic Team honors. Nineteen studentathletes were also named to the NE-10 Commissioner’s Honor Roll. DUO NAMED TO NEWISA SENIOR BOWL Jacquelyn Fede and Jenna Mallico were both selected to play in the NEWISA Senior Bowl following the conclusion of the 2011 season. ON DECK The Northeast-10 Tournament begins on Oct. 30.
