2012 VIOGNIER REGION Pyrenees, Western Victoria, Australia.

GRAPE VARIETIES 100% Viognier

WINEMAKER Andrew Koerner. WINEMAKER’S COMMENTS Viognier (pronounced vee-on-yay) is one of the worlds least planted white wine varieties that’s most notable use is in the white wines of the Rhone Valley in France, but is often blended, hiding its unique characters. Blue Pyrenees planted small experimental plots of this variety in the 1990’s and excited by the results, has undertaken further investment in Viognier, allowing Blue Pyrenees small volume commercial releases of this intriguing white wine. The 2011 / 2012 grape growing season was ideal in many respects with good winter and spring rains followed by the mildest summer and Autumn for many years. Hand picked grapes were cooled overnight then pressed the next morning, with the free run juice being racked to old white French oak barrels for a slow natural fermentation and then 6 months aging with fortnightly yeast stirring.

COLOUR Bright green with a pale yellow hue.

AROMA Fragrant apricot and musky floral aromas are hallmarks of Viognier and are clearly evident here along with a touch of background cedar oak.

FLAVOUR Exotic dried pear and apricot fruit flavours abound along with a rich creamy textured mid palate and a crisp mineral like finish.

CELLARING Can be enjoyed now or cellared with confidence for five years. The Blue Pyrenees Estate single varietal range of wines are crafted to express the true essence of the cool elevated Pyrenees region of Western Victoria..
