Mountain Lion Notes
Tale of the Tape
• Wenger’s three-RBI day against Winston-Salem State was just one of a trio of strong performances for the senior SS last weekend. In three games, Wenger hit .692 (9-for-13) with three runs scored, 12 RBI, two home runs and a .733 on-base percentage. • For his efforts, Wenger was named the WVIAC Player of the Week, NCBWA Atlantic Region Hitter of the Week and the NCBWA National Hitter of the Week. • Senior pitcher Drew Spear rebounded from a rocky first start to give up just three runs, all unearned, and strike out eight batters over seven innings in CU’s 10-3 win against St. Augustine’s • Spear did not allow a run in his final five innings.

Mountain Lion Notes • Junior pitcher Tim Leather has been Concord’s go-to reliever this season. In four games, Leather is 1-1 with a 2.16 ERA and four strikeouts in 8.1 innings of work. Opponents are batting just .207 against Leather this year. • In addition to racking up three hits and four runs scored, freshman outfielder Andrew Seigel flashed some of his speed last weekend with two stolen bases. • Junior outfielder Bret Blevins has already had five multi-hit games this season and his .500 batting average is tied with Wenger for the team lead. • Senior pitcher Ryan Weatherholtz (1-0) earned his first win of the season with a seven-strikeout performance vs. Chowan that saw Concord’s No. 1 starter scatter eight hits and give up just three runs in seven innings. • Weatherholtz is averaging five strikeouts per start. • Sophomore second baseman Jerrod Groves has registered two-hit games in four of Concord’s six contests this season with the highlight being a pair of doubles against Chowan. • Groves, senior outfielder Jacob Mays and junior first baseman Joey Miller have all reached base safely in all of the Mountain Lions’ games this year. • Mays, Concord’s leadoff hitter, has done a terrific job of getting on base for CU this season. The Charles Town, W. Va. native ranks third on the team with a .433 on-base percentage thanks in part to four walks and being hit by pitches five times. Only Miller has more walks than Mays with five. • Since the 2008 season, Concord is 5-7 against schools from the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference. • Indiana Pa. is led by College Baseball Newsletter Preseason All-Americans, Rick Jones, Stephen Cooke, Ryan Uhl and Robbie Zinsmeister.

2013 Concord Baseball Head Coach Andrew Wright Third Season Alma Mater: Concord - 2002 Record At Concord: 55-57 Career Record: Same Home Record: 27-17 Away Record: 18-36 Neutra Recordl: 10-4
Andrew Wright enters his third season at the helm of the Concord University Baseball program. In his tenure as head coach the Mountain Lions own a record of 53-53 and a conference record of 35-30; however, more impressive is their .700 winning percentage in postseason play. As a player, assistant coach and head coach, Wright has helped the Mountain Lions to a 212-147-1 record, reaching the WVIAC Tournament in each of his eight years with the program along with four WVIAC Title Games and two Championships. Wright has a very simple message to his players and their families: graduate, compete for championships and give back to the community. Over the last two years, the Mountain Lion program has seen a steady improvement in team GPA, a WVIAC Championship, and with the advent of the “1000 Hour Project,” the Mountain Lion program has legitimized their commitment to community service. The Mountain Lions have also continued its offensive prominence within the WVIAC Conference in 2011 and 2012, along with a drastic improvement on defense in 2012. With teams built on athleticism and a disciplined approach, the Mountain Lions hope to continue its reputation as one of the Atlantic Region’s most competitive programs. Wright’s coaching stops include three years on staff at West Virginia University (2004-2007), two years as the head coach of the Wilmington Sharks in the Coastal Plain League (2006-2007), one season as the pitching coach at Georgetown Prep (2009), two years as the lead instructor at Bethesda-Chevy Chase Baseball Facility (2008-2009), and was also part of the Milwaukee Brewers scouting efforts in the Washington, DC area. Wright has coached 47 players who have gone on to play professional baseball, including two who have reached the Major Leagues (Cody Eppley-New York Yankees and David CarpenterToronto Blue Jays). Wright and his wife, Stacy and daughter, Alex live in Princeton.
Ast. Coach Jeff Jefferson Second Season Alma Mater: Liberty - 2011

Jefferson will also help with recruiting efforts and will oversee other day-to-day aspects of the Mountain Lion program. Jefferson begins his coaching career after a four-year playing career at Liberty University in Lynchburg, VA.
