2013 Southern Connecticut State University Women’s Lacrosse Notes Games 8-9 Southern Connecticut (1-6, 0-5 NE-10) vs. Assumption (6-4, 3-3 NE-10) April 3 • 7 p.m. • New Haven, Conn. SCSU at Bentley (4-3, 2-1 NE-10) April 6 • 12 p.m. • Waltham, Mass. A BUSY WEEK The Southern Connecticut State University women’s lacrosse team will play a pair of Northeast-10 Conference games this week. The Owls will host Assumption on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. before traveling to Bentley on Saturday at noon. MUISE NAMED TO NE-10 WEEKLY HONOR ROLL For the third week in a row, Sarah Muise was named to the Northeast-10 Conference weekly honor roll this past Monday. Muise played a pivotal role in the Owls’ three contests last week, including Southern’s first win of the year, a 13-11 victory over Post. For the week, she registered nine points (eight goals, one assist). Muise also had seven groundballs, 12 draw controls and two caused turnovers. She scored both Owls’ goals against New Haven, posted a four-goal effort in the win over Post, and added three points in the contest against Franklin Pierce. SOPHOMORES LEADING THE OFFENSIVE CHARGE The offensive attack has been paced by a pair of sophomores during the opening month for the Owls. Sarah Muise leads the team with 21 points (18 goals, three assists), while Emily Orser is second with 16 points (13 goals, three assists). MUISE OFF TO A FAST START Sarah Muise has already surpassed her season point total from all of last year here in 2013. She totaled 13 points in 2012 but has 21 points already this year. Muise also set a new personal single-game high with four goals against St. Michael’s and Post. A QUICK LOOK AT THE LEADERS Here’s a quick snapshot of the Owls’ leaders in several key categories heading into the week: • Goals - Sarah Muise, 18 • Assists - Sarah Muise, Emily Orser, 3 • Points - Sarah Muise, 21 • Draw Controls - Sarah Muise, 28 • Groundballs - Jessica Shaw, 15 • Caused Turnovers - Erica Martino, 9 CEBRY AN OFFENSIVE DUAL THREAT Already an All-American in field hockey who led all of Division II in goals per game this past fall, Sarah Cebry has emerged as a formidable offensive threat for the Owls on the lacrosse field this spring. She has already set a new careerhigh in goals (nine) and points (10) through the first seven games of the year.

ALL-TIME AGAINST ASSUMPTION Assumption holds an 8-3 lead in the all-time series between the clubs. ALL-TIME AGAINST BENTLEY Bentley leads the all-time series with Southern Connecticut, 11-0.

MORE OPENING WEEK NUGGETS • Emily Orser registered her third collegiate hat trick in the game against SNHU. • Sarah Muise set a new career-high with four points in the game against SNHU, and also handed out a career-best two assists in the opener against STAC. Muise also posted a new career-high with seven draw controls against SNHU. • Sarah Cebry tallied her second collegiate hat trick in the game against STAC. • Senior Jessica Shaw posted the seventh hat trick of her collegiate career in the game against SNHU. • The 13 goals scored against SNHU was the highest offensive team output for the Owls since scoring 22 in a win over Post on March 14, 2012. IN THE NORTHEAST-10 PRESEASON POLL Southern Connecticut was selected 13th in the Northeast-10 Conference preseason poll, as voted on by the league’s coaches. WELCOME TO THE CLUB The Owls welcome four newcomers to the club this year sophomore Hunter Prindle-Nelson and freshmen Lindsey Merrow, Vanessa Pagano and Nora Daly. THE CAPTAINS Seniors Katie Walter and Jessica Shaw will serve as team captains for the 2013 season. LOOKING BACK AT 2012 The Southern Connecticut State University women’s lacrosse team concluded the 2012 season with a final mark of 1-15. HEIPLE EARNS ACADEMIC HONOR Elaina Heiple was selected to the Northeast-10 Conference Women’s Lacrosse All-Academic Team at the conclusion of the campaign. To be eligible for Academic All-Conference consideration, a student-athlete must be a starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00 and completed at least one academic year at his/her current institution. MARTINO EARNS IWLCA COMMUNITY HONOR Erica Martino was selected as a recipient of the 2012 Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Community Awareness Award. This prestigious honor is awarded to just one women’s lacrosse student-

athlete in each of the three NCAA divisions annually. Martino was selected as the Division II recipient, joining Division I honoree Catherine Helming of Saint Francis (Pa.) and Division III honoree Anna Geeter of Widener. • Martino clearly made an impact both on the campus and greater New Haven communities during the preceding academic year. A member of the SCSU Service Team, she participated in campus events such as Friends of Rudolph, Girls and Women in Sport Day, Relay for Life and Day of Service. She also served as a peer mentor and volunteered her time towards conducting campus tours. • In addition, Martino also assisted with numerous local initiatives. She took part in the academic assistance program at the Beecher School in New Haven and assisted with Loaves and Fishes, an organization that helps the hungry. Martino also participated at the American Cancer Society’s Daffodil Days event and the Comcast Cares Day area cleanup. Martino and her teammates also baked pies for the Springfield (Mass.) Rescue Mission during the Thanksgiving season. • Martino is also a member of the Zeta Delta Epsilon sorority and serves as Vice President of the Class of 2014. HEIPLE MOVES UP CAREER CHARTS Elaina Heiple finished her career ranked third in all-time goals scored with 84. She also ranked second in assists with 20. Heiple totaled 104 overall points, ranking third in SCSU women’s lacrosse history. PAIR EARNS IWLCA ACADEMIC HONORS Two members of the women’s lacrosse team – Elaina Heiple and Katie Walter – were selected to the 2012 IWLCA Academic Squad. In order to receive this honor, studentathletes must have achieved at least a minimum GPA of 3.5 and maintained at least junior academic standing. HEIPLE NAMED TO SENIOR ALL-STAR GAME Elaina Heiple was selected to play in the IWLCA NorthSouth Senior All-Star Game, which took place on June 16 at the United States Training Center in Downington, Pa. ON DECK The Owls return to action on April 9 for a home game against Queens.
