Cutting Requirements Fabric A Red Words & Stars (4) 2 ½” x WOF strips, pieced together end to end for binding Fabric B Blue Stars & Circles (1) 2 ½” x 25 ½” (2) 2 ½” x 20 ½” (1) 2 ½” x 15 ½” (2) 2 ½” x 3 ½” Fabric C Cream Star Flower Toss (1) 16 ½” x 16 ½” square for appliqué background
5. Trace Basket body & handle shapes onto 8248-55 Brown Star Wreath. 6. Trace star on Blue Star Wreath. 7. Assorted green fabric: trace four leaf shapes and five 1 ½” x about 18” bias strips for stems*. Use your preferred method to make bias stems. *½” bias bars are recommended. 8. Arrange the appliqué pieces on the Cream Star Flower Toss background. Fuse or stitch into place. 9. Trim the background to 15 ½” x 15 ½”.
Pieced Blocks and Pieced Border
From the remainder of your assorted fabrics cut: For Blocks: Cut a total of: (11) 1 ½” x 1 ½” squares gold for block centers (44) 1 ½” x 2 ½” rectangles (44) 2 7/8” x 2 7/8” squares for HST Pieced Border (2) 3 ½” x 3 ½” squares (35) 2 ½” x 3 ½” rectangles for pieced border
Block Construction
1. Pair two contrasting 2 7/8” x 2 7/8” squares. Draw a line from corner to corner on the wrong side of one square. Place the squares right sides together and stitch ¼” from each side of the drawn line. 2. Cut apart on the line. Press. This will give you (2) 2 ½” x 2 ½” HST units. Make (4).
3. Arrange the block pieces as shown and stitch together. Use the assorted 1 1/2” x 2 1/2” rectangles and 1 1/2” x 1 1/2” gold squares. These blocks are completely scrappy, so feel free to put the fabrics in any combination that is pleasing to you.
Appliqué (basic appliqué skills are required)
1. Transfer appliqué shapes to template plastic. 2. Follow manufacturer’s instructions for fusible webbing. If you are using the needle-turn method, add a seam allowance to the shapes. 3. Trace (5) center pieces from assorted gold fabrics. 4. Trace (25) petal shapes from assorted red fabrics.
Make (11) blocks. They measure 5 1/2” x 5 1/2” unfinished.
1. Sew three blocks together and join to the top of the appliqué block. 9. Sew remaining (5) 2 1/2” x 3 1/2” assorted rectangles together. Add the remaining end unit from step 5 to one end. 10. Add the 2 1/2” x 15 1/2” Blue Stars & Circles border strip. Note placement of end unit. 11. Join remaining three bocks together, add to the border unit.
12. Sew to the bottom of the quilt top. 2. Sew four blocks together and join to the left side of the appliqué block. 3. Sew (10) assorted 2 ½” x 3 ½” rectangles into a strip. Sew a 2 ½” x 20 ½” Blue Stars & Circles border strip to one side of the pieced strips. Make (3).
4. Sew to one to each side of the quilt top as shown:

5. Sew a 2 ½” x 3 ½” Blue Stars & Circles rectangle to an assorted 3 ½” x 3 ½” squares. Make (2) end units
6. Join one of the end units to one end of the remaining (10) unit pieced strip.
