63.4 percent of Indiana children live in married couple families, 9.3 percent in single father families and 27.2 percent in single mother families.1 FAMILY
One in five Indiana children younger than age 18 (21.5%) live in poverty—the rate is higher for young children, of whom a quarter live in poverty (25.3% younger than age 6).2 ECONOMY
Of the nearly 509,000 children ages 0-5 in Indiana, only 37,158 are enrolled in high-quality early education programs.3 EDUCATION
One in six Indiana high school students used a drug other than alcohol or tobacco in the last month (16.6%).4 HEALTH
Indiana has the fifth highest rate in the U.S. of first-time victims of child maltreatment (10.4 per 1,000 compared to 6.8 per 1,000 nationally).5 SAFETY
