2016 Skyline Conference Men’s Soccer Team Announced FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE NEW YORK – The Skyline Conference has announced its 2016 men’s soccer all-conference teams, and senior forward Gavin Yingling of the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy has been selected as the Player of the Year in voting the conference’s 12 head coaches. Mount Saint Mary College senior keeper Tyler Biscone was named Defensive Player of the Year, while freshman keepers Julian Rodriguez of St. Joseph’s College-Brooklyn and Michael Rodriguez of SUNY Maritime College share Rookie of the Year honors. USMMA 27th-year head coach Michael Smolens was selected as Coach of the Year by his peers. Yingling (Salisbury, Md.), who scored the 99th-minute golden goal Saturday (Nov. 5) to lift the top-seeded Mariners to the Skyline Conference Championship title over Sage, ranks No. 8 nationally with 20 goals scored, and sits 19th with an average of 2.21 points per game. Biscone (Garden City, N.Y.) helped the Knights to a share of the regular-season title after posting a conference-high seven shutouts, and a 1.14 goals against average. Julian Rodriguez ranks No. 21 nationally with 120 saves in his freshman campaign, while Michael Rodriguez ranked fourth and fifth in the Skyline with a .788 save percentage and 1.57 goals against average, respectively. A 1984 graduate of Springfield College, Smolens has now won 10 Skyline Conference Coach of the Year honors in his career, and has been named NSCAA Regional Coach of the Year on two occasions (2002, ’04). Joining Yingling and Biscone on the all-conference first-team are: Tobi Ojuade of Farmingdale State; Joey Dolan, Matt Minniter and Fred Stark of Mount Saint Mary; Kevin Jardines of Mount Saint Vincent; Dominick Guidice and Alexander Hilton of Old Westbury; River Seybolt of Sage; and Brian Nickel and Hannes Rogers of the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy. Second-team accolades go to: Jovanni Parkinson of Farmingdale State; Tim Guido of Mount Saint Vincent; James Marchena of Old Westbury; Paul Reynoso of Sage; Cesar Oviedo of St. Joseph’s-Brooklyn; Brian O’Sullivan and Eddie Whalen of St. Joseph’s-Long Island; David Burkhardt, Cory Maier and Neil Painter of USMMA; and Itamar Ben David of Yeshiva.
