2017 Skyline Conference Baseball All-Conference Team Announced FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE NEW YORK – The Skyline Conference’s 10 baseball coaches have voted on their 2017 all-conference team, and SUNY Maritime College first baseman Brian McLaughlin (Sr./Massapequa, N.Y.) has been selected as Player of the Year after helping the Privateers (26-11) to a conference title. Senior right-hander Josh Outsen (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) of St. Joseph’s College-Long Island has been named Pitcher of the Year, while fellow righty Travis Bruinsma (Fr./Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) of Maritime takes home Rookie of the Year praise. Third-year Maritime head coach Charlie Barbieri was tabbed as Coach of the Year in a vote by his peers. McLaughlin ranks seventh and 11th nationally in slugging percentage (.780) and batting average (.455), respectively. His 51 RBI are the top mark in the Skyline and are the No. 14 mark in Division III. Outsen put up a 7-0 record for the Golden Eagles, registering a 1.99 earned run average and 54 strikeouts in 54.1 innings pitched. His 0.94 WHIP is the 22nd-best mark in Division III, and his five complete games rank No. 17 nationally. Bruinsma has won a conference-best eight games on the bump for the Privateers, and enters the NCAA Division III Baseball Championship with a 3.70 earned run average in 58.1 innings pitched – the third-highest mark in the conference. Barbieri (Adelphi ’01) has guided the Privateers to a 60-43 record (.583) in his three years at the helm, and mentored Maritime to not only a program single-season record 26 wins this year, but also its first Skyline Conference Baseball Championship this past weekend. Joining Bruinsma, McLaughlin and Outsen on the all-conference first team are: Dalton McCarthy, Vincent Rice and Matt Seelinger of Farmingdale State College; Stephen Semler of Maritime; Kevin Lao, Jesse Russo and Tommy Ziegen of SUNY Old Westbury; Patrick Rucci of SUNY Purchase College; John Condon and Nick LoPrinzi of St. Joseph’s College-Brooklyn; and Lou Doria of St. Joseph’s-Long Island. Second-team student-athletes include: Connor Alwan, Matt Costleigh and Chris Deddo of Maritime; Lou Sileno of Old Westbury; Michael Camerada of St. Joseph’s-Brooklyn; Paul Britt, Matthew Burnett, Dan Campanelli and Brandon Lubrano of St. Joseph’s-Long Island; and Michael Barnes, Kyle Cunningham and Nathan Slusarczyk of the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.
