SCSU COACH SCOTT UNDERWOOD: Scott Underwood is starting his ninth season as the head coach at St. Cloud State in 2016. Underwood is the 12th head football coach in the history of Husky football. Prior to being named the St. Cloud State head coach, Underwood had been the defensive coordinator for the Huskies since 2001. In eight seasons at the helm of the Husky football program, Underwood has compiled a 6430 overall record. His win total is the second-most all-time at SCSU. He has placed SCSU among the nation’s elite NCAA Division II programs with NCAA tournament appearances in 2010, 2011 and 2013.

The program brings back All-NSIC First Team selections Jaden Huff (RB), Jameson Parsons (WR), Craig Szymanski (LB) and Brady Westart (LB). All-NSIC Second Team award winners in 2015 who are back this fall include Bryce Johnson (OL), Mitch Knutson (DL) and Richardo Ramos (DL). All-NSIC Honorable Award winners back from 2015 are Jerry Duckworth (DB), Adam Josephson (LB), Grant Lewis (OL), and Nate Meyer (QB) The team returns two-year starting quarterback Nate Meyer Meyer threw for 2,851 yards and 22 touchdowns last season. He became just the fifth quarterback in school history to throw more than 20 touchdowns in a season. His consecutive seasons of over 2,000 yards passing the last two years made him just the sixth quarterback in school history to accomplish the feat in back-to-back seasons. The team also returns leading receiver Jameson Parsons, who caught 61 passes for 1,272 and nine touchdowns as a junior. Parsons became just the fifth receiver in the school record books with a 1,000 yard receving season as a junior. The squad leading returning rusher is Jaden Huff, who ran for 741 yards and 13 touchdowns as a sophomore. Besides Meyer and Parsons, Huff is the only current member of

the offense to have registered a collegiate carry. On defense, linebacker Brady Westart paced the team with his 79 tackles and racked up 10.5 stops for loss plus 7.5 sacks. Adam Josephson was steady on defense with his 71 tackles with fellow linebacker Craig Szymanski tallying a team-high 12 tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks. SCSU charted 2,361 yards on the ground, while limiting opponents to 1,594 yards. In the air, SCSU gained 2,880 yards passing (194318-12) and allowed 2,570 yards (202-350-9). The Huskies were able to outscore their opponents by a 389-255 margin including 238-113 in the second and fourth quarters. The team brings back a total of 13 starters (six offense and seven defense) this season along with a total of 29 letterwinners, plus adds in 39 newcomers to the mix.

Fotball Gameplan All-American Team WR - Jameson Parsons - First Team Offense Scouting Sioux Falls • The Cougars come into the contest ranked 20th in the nation in the D2Football.com preseason poll and 23rd in the AFCA preseason poll • USF top returning offensive starter in quarterback Luke Papilion, who ran for 854 yards and seven touchdowns plus completed 242 of 411 passes for 3,184 yards and 30 touchdowns. • Josh Angulo returns for his senior season after putting up 63 catches for 919 yards and eight touchdowns • Brady Rose is the other top returning receiver as he caught 62 passes for 880 yards and 10 touchdowns in 2015. • The USF offensive line allowed just five sacks all of last season to rank as the top unit in all of NCAA Division II. • Brett Garner is a steady kicker that made 9-of-13 field goals and 61-fo-64 extra points for 88 points last season. • Josh Butler is the squad’s top returning defensive starter. Head coach Jed Stugart is entering his seventh season leading the program and has gone 53-16 in his first six seasons. Overall, he has a record of 79-23 in his nine years as a collegiate head coach. The Cougars are coming off a season where they made their firstever trip to the NCAA Division II playoff. USF has won nine or more games in three of its four years at the NCAA DII level and are on a streak of having won 20 of the last 24 games. The program returns 16 starters and 50 letterwinners to a team that finished second overall in the NSIC last season.

The program ranked sixth nationally in the category • The team ranked second in the NSIC and among the top 20 nationally in several categories including fewest penalities (56 - 16th), fewest penalty yards per game (5.09 - 15th), fewest penalty yards (429 - 10th), fewest penalty yards per game (39.00 - 9th) passing yards per completion (14.85 - 17th) and total offense (476.5- 17th). • The program also placed in the top five in the NSIC in third down conversion percentage (.493 - 3rd), rushing offense (214.6 - 3rd), sacks allowed (1.36 - 3rd), completion percentage (61.0 - 4th), red zone offense (84.6 - 4th), scoring offense (35.4 - 4th), sacks (2.27 - 4th), first downs allowed (202 - 4th), fourth down conversion percentage (55.6 - 4th) and punt return defense (8.55 - 5th). • The team held three opponents below 100 yards rushing in a game including a season low 67 yards to the University of Mary. • The squad recorded seven games of 200 or more yards rushing including a season-high of 368 against Minot State • The team also had five games of over 250 yards passing including 424 yards in the air against Minnesota Duluth. The yardage was the third-highest single game total in school history. Inside the Numbers - Player Notes • Jameson Parsons led the NSIC in receiving yards with 1,272 yards and with his averaged of 115.6 yards per game. His receiving total was the second-most in school history for a single season.His 115.6 receiving yards per game placed him fifth nationally. • Parsons also placed third in yards per reception (20.85), fourth in the league in receiving touchdowns (9), fifth in all-purpose yards (117.82) and sixth in receptions per game (5.5). • He became just the fifth player in school history to total 1,000 or more receiving yards in a season. Overall, it is just the sixth time that mark has been reached. (Fred Williams - 1,616 yds. in 2010; Jameson Parsons - 1,272 yds. in 2015; Mike McKinney - 1,145 yds. in 1997; Ben Nelson - 1,072 yds. in 2002; Ryan Koch - 1,028 yds. in 2005 and Ben Nelson - 1018 yds. in 2001). • Jaden Huff ranked second in the NSIC with 13 rushing touchdowns. His 13 ground touchdowns placed him seventh on the single season list at SCSU. Huff also ran for 733 yards to place 10th in the NSIC. • Brady Westart placed third in the NSIC with his average of 0.68 sacks per game and ninth in solo tackles (4.5) • Nate Meyer was third in the NSIC in yards per pass attempt (9.14), passing efficiency (153.2) and passing yards per completion (15.01). He was fourth in total offense (298.40), fifth in completion percentage (60.9), passing touchdowns (22), passing yards (2,851), passing yards per game (259.2), point responsible for (178), eighth in completions per game (17.27) and 11th in rushing touchdowns (7). • Meyer became just the fourth different SCSU player to throw for over 20 touchdowns in a season along with Keith Heckendorf, Phillip Klaphake and Daniel Kaczor and it was just the eighth time the feat had been accomplished overall. • Meyer’s 2,851 yards passing was the fourth-highest single season total in school history while his 190 completions were the fifth-most in the record books.



His 2,851 yards passing this season and 2,051 yards passing as a sophomore make him just the sixth player in school history to throw for more than 2,000 yards in back-to-back campaigns. • Meyer’s average of 9.1 yards per pass tied him for the fourth-best in school history in a single season. • Meyer’s passing yard average of 259.2 per game ranks second in the school single season record book. • Craig Szymanski placed ninth in the league with his average of 1.1 tackles for loss per game. • Four Huskies posted 100-yard rushing games this season. Running back Curtwan Evans and quarterback Nate Meyer each had one 100-yard game. Running back Jaden Huff topped 100 yards twice and running back Ledell White totaled three games of over 100 yards rushing. • Three SCSU players recorded 100-yard receving games. Wide receiver Matt Hentges had one, tight end Grant Thayer recorded two and wide receiver Jameson Parsons had seven 100 yard games. Other Notables • Nate Meyer completed 7-of-16 passes for 234 yards and two touchdowns against Mary in the last game of 2015 (11/14). He finished the season with a streak of seven straight games with multiple passing touchdowns and had eight such games during the 2015 season and 14 since coming to SCSU in 2014. • Jameson Parsons had 60 catches for 1,245 yards the last nine weeks of the season. • Nate Meyer’s 234 yards passing against Mary gives him 4,902 in his career. That total ranks fifth in the SCSU record book. The all-time leader for St. Cloud State is Phillip Klaphake’s (2010-13) with 11,261 yards. Meyer is also ranked fourth in passing efficiency (143.5), passing yards per game (222.8), fifth in passing touchdowns (38), sixth in passing yards per completion (14.7), seventh in pass completion percentage (58.1) and pass completions (334). • Meyer completed just under 61 percent of his passes (60.9%) in 2015 (190--for-312). He came into the year with a career completion percentage of 54 percent (144-for-263). • Jameson Parsons had 26 20-plus yard receptions this season and 49 of his 61 catches resulted in either a first down or touchdown for SCSU. • Adam Josephson led the team with 52 running-play tackles. • Thirty of Carvel Graham’s 59 tackles this season came on passing plays. • James Williams led the team with 10 special teams stops. • All three of John Pass’ receiving touchdowns came in games that SCSU won. • Craig Szymanski recorded at least half a tackle for loss in all but two games on the season. • Jaden Huff reached 1,000 career rushing yards last year. Huff has rumbled for 1,028 rushing yards in his career. • Derek Witte hit a career-long 28-yard field goal against Northern State. • Nate Meyer’s 33 completions against Minnesota Duluth (10/10/15) are the second-most in school history for a single game, while his 53 attempts were the fourth-most • Jameson Parsons’ 180 receiving yards against Southwest Minnesota is the ninth-highest single game total in school history. Up Next • The Huskies play their first road game of the 2016 season and travel to Fayette, Iowa to take on Upper Iowa at Harms-Eischeid Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 10, at 1 p.m. • The Huskies are 3-2 all-time against UIU. The schools last played in St. Cloud in 2014 with Upper Iowa winning 37-31. The last game in Fayette was during the 2012 season as the Huskies earned the 45-20 victory. • The teams first ever-meeting was during the 1949 season with UIU winning 23-20.
