2016 UTSA Roadrunners Football UTSA 33, Charlotte 14 Saturday, Nov 26 Alamodome · San Antonio, Texas Charlotte Postgame Quotes Head Coach Brad Lambert On the emotions in the locker room … “It’s tough. I just thanked them for taking a risk on us and coming here to start this program. What a great foundation they laid for us. It’s got a chance to propel us forward as we move into next year and the year after. I just appreciate them so much. They came out and gave us a great effort tonight. We are just down a lot of guys and UTSA played hard. They made some good plays. But that locker room was hard. You’re hugging all those guys and there’s a lot of emotions in there. There are a lot of good, young men that came here and took a chance on us and represented this university in a first-class manner.” On how injuries have affected this team the last few games … “It’s huge. Huge. We had too many injuries. We were down three offensive linemen. And then you throw in the fact that UTSA is pretty good up front on defense and they were playing extremely hard. It got uphill on us in a hurry. I was just really proud of the guys because we just kept hanging around and kept hanging around and then all of the sudden we get the score on punt return. You look up and it’s 20-14 in the fourth quarter and you’re like ‘Okay, this is something we can work with here.’ So I was really proud of the guys. It got out of hand there at the end because we were going for it on 4th down trying to go score some points. UTSA had a lot to do with it though. It was tough up there for us running the ball.” On Hasaan Klugh’s contribution to the team this season … “Huge. He’s been huge for us. He got hurt there in the third or fourth quarter. I can’t remember when we took him out. He just had too much tingling there in his hand. I couldn’t risk putting him back out there. He’s meant so much to us. He’s a fabulous person and he gives us an added dimension and work ethic at the quarterback position. He’s just such a great kid and that’s been huge for us over the last seven games.” On the huge gap in time of possession tonight … “It was huge. In the third quarter we were playing pretty good on defense and we kept getting off the field. And then in the fourth quarter it just piled up on us. [UTSA] just kinda took over because we had been on the field so much. We couldn’t get our running game going so it got really difficult for our defense there at the end.” On what he takes away from his 2016 season … “This is a good step for us. You look at these seven games and we played against good people. And winning three in the league, that’s a good step from not winning any last year. So we just have to continue on this tradjectory and keep recruiting hard and continue on this path. I think really good things lie ahead for us.” — continued —
Larry Ogunjobi, Sr., DL On playing his final game and going into the locker room … "It's bittersweet. It’s a great group of guys. Emotions were high, this is a game we really wanted to win. It tough. The was the last time I play for Charlotte. The foundation has been laid and there is something to build on. It just has to all come together." On the younger players that will be taking over … "I'm excited. We have a great quarterback and great offensive line. You can see the excitement in their eyes. This is no longer a pipe dream. We are so close to where we want to be. It is up to the next class to set the bar higher than where we set it." On the coaches and what they mean to the program … "They mean everything to me. They are great men on and off the field. They made us better men and better football players. The pieces are there, they just have to put them all in place." On playing 40 minutes on defense and how much fatigue he had … "Defenses play defense regardless of how long they have been on field. It doesn’t matter how tired we are, our job is to prevent them from scoring."
