Charleston Southern came up short at home against Vermont in the final game of the Nike Challenge 2 after defeating Jacksonville State in Friday’s game one. KELLY HINKLE scored the game-winning goal for her first goal of the season as CSU topped Jacksonville State 1-0. ALYSSA DELLACQUA kept the Bucs in contention the entire game, with nine saves in the game for her first shutout of the season. The Bucs consistently put pressure on the Catamount defense, outshooting Vermont 19-10, but missed several opportunities to close the gap. JORDAN NEWMAN led the Buccaneers with seven shots, carding CSU’s only goal in the 60th minute of the match for her third goal of the season.
GARDNER-WEBB ELINE GLAMSLAND continued to emerge as a great table setter for Gardner-Webb in her first season, recording an assist in the 82nd minute to help cap a dominant, 5-1 win over Alabama State on Sunday. Glamsland also led the team with five shots, as Gardner-Webb pressured the hosts all afternoon (24 team shots). Four of her shots were on frame. Glamsland has now started nine matches as a true freshman and leads Gardner-Webb with three assists. She also has one goal and five points on the season.
HIGH POINT High Point claimed a 3-2 overtime victory over William & Mary in its lone contest last week.
LIBERTY Liberty began the week hosting FGCU on Friday. While the Eagles edged the Lady Flames, 1-0, with a goal in the second period, redshirt senior goalkeeper HOLLY VAN NOORD climbed the Liberty record books. The netminder finished the contest with five saves to become No. 2 all-time on the program’s all-time list with 341. On Sunday, Liberty traveled to Richmond, Va., for a mactchup with VCU. Despite a goal by ISABELLA HABUDA, her third of the season, the Lady Flames fell, 2-1. LONGWOOD Longwood split its matches last week with a 1-0 setback to No. 17 Virginia Tech, but responded with a 2-1 double-overtime win over St. Francis on Sunday.
PRESBYTERIAN Presbyterian College went 1-2 on the week. The Blue Hose began the week of play with a 3-0 loss to Furman in what was a makeup game from earlier in the year. PC then rebounded for a 2-1 victory on the road at USC Upstate, before falling at Clemson on Sunday afternoon.
RADFORD Radford wrapped up non-conference play by splitting two 1-0 decisions last week, defeating Tennessee Tech on Friday before falling on the road at College of Charleston on Sunday. NELIA PEREZ tallied her first collegiate goal in the victory, the team’s second straight shutout at home. Sunday’s defeat was the third one-goal setback of the season for the Highlanders. COURTENAY KAPLAN recorded a career-high nine saves to keep it a scoreless game until the 69th minute.
UNC ASHEVILLE The Bulldogs split its matches from last week as the Bulldogs dropped to North Dakota State, but answered with a 4-1 victory over Alabama A&M on Sunday.
WINTHROP Eagles open up conference play this weekend when they host Radford on Saturday. Winthrop is 4-7-2 all-time in conference openers and 3-9-1 in their conference home openers. Of the nine losses at home in those contests, four of them have been one goal games and three have come in overtime. All-time the Eagles are 5-6-3 against the Highlanders.
