November, 2017 In Other News

Effective January 1, 2018, bats approved for use in play are changing and you will need to take action prior to taking the field. USA Baseball, the national organization governing bat performance have adopted new bats approved for play in many national baseball organizations including Babe Ruth Baseball / Cal Ripken Baseball which SVBL is member to. According to JustBats.com blog here are important takeaways you need to know;

In order to maintain the integrity of youth baseball, the USABat standard will create wood-like performance in youth bats while allowing younger players to use light-weight bats that could not be achieved with wood bats.

AABC, Babe Ruth / Cal Ripken, Dixie, Little League, and PONY will all be affected by the USA Bat rule change, but USSSA will not.

The organizations that will adopt the USA Bat rule change will also then allow players to use a bat with either a 2 1/4 inch or 2 5/8 inch barrel diameter (as long as it bears the new USA Bat stamp).

All current league-approved bats can be used through December 31, 2017.

Bats that are regulated by the new USA Bat standard will be available to purchase on September 1st, 2017.

COOPERSTOWN CORNER Each year a 12U team from the league is chosen to represent SVBL in Cooperstown, NY for a week long tournament that features teams around the nation.  The team works hard for two years on and off the field playing in tournaments throughout the Southland and raising money for the expensive trip to the East Coast.  Going to Cooperstown is considered an honor and a joy.  The players make long lasting friendships as they travel and play high caliber baseball with their teammates.  The 2018 Cooperstown team is managed by Justin Martin and coached by Jimmy Nelson, Jerry Flores and Joel Orme.  The roster that fills out this Simi Cyclones baseball team will be highlighted in this section each month.  These players were selected for their talent, their hard work and dedication to baseball, their desire to excel and grow as a player and a person, and their longevity at SVBL.  “Everybody is really excited and working really hard to make this the best experience for all of us.” – Coach Justin.  If you’re looking to support the team you may donate through the league as a tax deductible gift or participate in their monthly fundraisers.
