2017 LEAGUE YOUTH PROGRAM HILTON EL CONQUISTADOR IN ORO VALLEY | AUGUST 23

Youth delegates from your city or town are invited to join us at the 12th Annual League Youth Program to be held at the League Annual Conference, Wednesday, August 23, at the Hilton El Conquistador in Oro Valley, Arizona. Attendees will participate in their own sessions and activities, as well as have the opportunity to interact with local elected officials and learn more about the issues and challenges facing Arizona. Youth commissions and youth advisory boards from across the state are invited to participate. PLEASE NOTE: There is a $65 fee for each student and chaperone attending the Youth Program. Questions? AGENDA 7:30 A.M. – CHECK-IN/REGISTRATION Youth who are participating in the Parade of Flags: Please go directly to the practice at 7:30 a.m. You will be able to check in with the Youth Program after the Opening General Session. Youth who are not participating in the Parade of Flags may come to youth program room for check-in then head to the ballroom for the Parade of Flags. A light continental breakfast will be available. 9:00 A.M. – PARADE OF FLAGS AND OPENING GENERAL SESSION As a group, the youth will go to the Opening General Session. There will be seats reserved for the youth in the back of the room. After the League president recognizes the youth, we will head back together. 10:00 - 10:35 A.M. – ICE BREAKER Facilitator: Elizabeth Sparks, Assistant Agent, 4-H Youth Development, University of Arizona Students will spend the session engaged in problem-solving that will promote communication and teamwork. 10:40 - 11:25 A.M. – CREATING CHANGE Speaker: Dustin Runyon, President, Only Orchids Charity Group We have all heard that ‘knowledge is power’ and yet we find ourselves knowing what to do and not doing what we know. How do we close that gap? How do we find the energy to become who we truly desire to become? Where do we even start? Dustin Runyon president of the Only Orchids Charity Group is going to show you strategies in order to break into your power and breakthrough your fears. What it takes to create change and what is needed to lead. We weren’t designed to merely survive we were designed to thrive. Give, not take. So answer this... what would you do if you knew you couldn’t fail? 11:30 A.M. - 12:00 P.M. – A LEADER’S MINDSET: ORGANIZATION AND PURPOSE Speaker: Bharath Tata, Founder and Executive Director, Students for Sustainable Schools Founded in July 2013 at Hamilton High School in Chandler, Arizona, Students for Sustainable Schools (SSS) seeks to get students involved in creating more sustainable and efficient schools and communities through education, organization, and action. They strive to accomplish real change in our schools by eliminating waste, reducing carbon footprints, and most importantly, raising awareness and educating students and faculty about environmental issues and solutions. Bharath Tata, founder of Students for Sustainable Schools, will discuss how the program was started, how it grew, and how they dealt with obstacles. Bharath will also emphasize the work put in to develop its organizational structure and how the club leaders developed a focused mindset that allowed SSS’s to reach the success that it did. 12:00 - 12:50 P.M. – LUNCH Elected officials will be invited to attend this lunch and interact with the youth.

Youth councils are not required to submit their topic. 2:00 - 3:00 P.M. – DemocraSEED • • • • • •
