2017 P.L.A.Y. Travel Baseball Commitment Pledge In-Season Baseball is considered as April 1st – July 31st or when season is determined to be over. Players and parents who are unable to commit to the promises listed below should not attend travel team tryouts.

Player’s Promises: If I am selected to represent Prior Lake as a travel team player I promise I will:  Complete my schoolwork and homework early so I can be free to attend baseball practices and games. I understand that my education is my number one priority, but I also understand that I may not use schoolwork or homework as an excuse for missing baseball games or practice’s if I could have completed the work by starting sooner.  Treat my teammates, coaches, and opponents with respect.  Try my best at all times.  Make baseball my most important sports commitment during the baseball season. If a baseball game or practice conflicts with a game, practice or tryout for any other sport or other non-academic activity, I will give baseball first priority.  Make all possible efforts to attend practices/games and provide my coaches with as much advance notice as possible if I have to miss a practice, game or tournament.

Parent’s Promises: If I (we) are a parent(s) of a travel team player, I (we) will:  Supervise our player’s activities to insure that schoolwork does not suffer as a result of traveling baseball.  Make sure that transportation arrangements are made to get our player to and from all games and practices.  Volunteer a minimum of eight hours during the season to assist with tournaments, organization, field maintenance, etc.  Arrange family activities to eliminate conflicts with tournaments, games and practices. Where conflicts are unavoidable, I (we) will notify the head coach prior to the start of the season, or as soon as possible, of any dates our player will not be available. Family vacations should be scheduled after the end of the season.  Remember the game is for the players. I (we) will act and speak responsibly toward our team, the opposing team, all coaches, umpires and all involved. Failing to adhere to the above promises will result in disciplinary actions. At the Head Coach’s, Baseball Director’s, and/or VP’s discretion, in relation to the severity of the offense, disciplinary actions may include reduced playing time, suspension, or release from the team. No refund will be given.

Commitment Policy: Being a member of a Prior Lake Traveling baseball team requires commitment and dedication. Traveling Baseball means added commitment on the part of the player and his family. It is the commitment of time and effort that most clearly differentiates the traveling baseball program from the in-house program. Players and families with major conflicts need to be aware of the commitment level required and make the appropriate decision. If you are selected for a Prior Lake Traveling Baseball team you commit to participating in all practices, games, and tournaments, and you acknowledge and agree to the following consequences should you fail to meet that commitment: 

If a player misses a practice(s), but is not injured or sick. This must be communicated in advance to the head coach: o 10 – 13 year old age groups – 12-man player rotation  1st offense – Coaches may use their discretion to not penalize a player if there is no past history of absence’s and the reason for missing the practice is valid, (i.e. – important family functions)  2nd offense – Bat 12th next game  3rd offense – Bat 12th next game and 1 less defensive inning than all other players  4th offense – Bat 12th next game and 2 less defensive innings than all other players  5th offense – Sit out 1 full game for each offense (dressed in uniform, warm-up with the team, participate positively with the team by warming up pitchers, retrieving foul balls, etc.)  5 of more offenses of missing practices may lose eligibility to participate in the program next year.

If a player misses a tournament game(s), but is not injured or sick. This must be communicated in advance to the head coach: o 10 – 15 year old age groups  1st offense - Sit out 1 full game (dressed in uniform, warm-up with the team, participate positively with the team by warming up pitchers, retrieving foul balls, etc.)  2nd offense – Sit out 2 full games (dressed in uniform, warm-up with the team, participate positively with the team by warming up pitchers, retrieving foul balls, etc.)  2 or more offenses of missing tournament games may lose eligibility to participate in the program next year.

It hurts an entire team to have players with other priorities. If a parent (or guardian) knows that their child will miss 2 or more of the weekend tournaments during the season due to vacations or other commitments then please consider participating in our in-house program and allow another player who does not have any attendance limitations an opportunity to make the team. When missing a practice or a game, the player is not fulfilling his responsibilities to his team or teammates.
