OWLS LOOK TO KEEP THINGS ROLLING The Southern Connecticut State University baseball team returns home for four home contests this week. The Owls are looking to build on a strong showing in Florida, where they went 8-1 and are currently riding a four-game winning streak. The Owls are back in action on Wednesday against Adelphi. SCSU will also play three games at home against Saint Rose over the weekend, a doubleheader on Saturday and a single game on Sunday. ALL-TIME VS. ADELPHI The Panthers lead the all-time series against the Owls, 17-13. In the last meeting, Southern Connecticut State won a tightly contested game, 3-2, last season. ALL-TIME VS. SAINT ROSE The Golden Knights lead the all-time series, 23-13, with Saint Rose winning the last meeting, 6-3, last season. LAST TIME OUT The Owls defeated Merrimack, 8-3, in Florida on March 18. Four Owls registered multiple hits and freshman Brendan Ebert tossed six innings to earn the win. The win concluded the swing through the Sunshine State with eight victories in nine contests for the Owls. OWLS RANKED NO. 4 IN THE REGION... The Southern Connecticut State University baseball team is ranked fourth in this week’s National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association East Region poll. AND NO. 2 IN NEW ENGLAND The Owls are No. 2 in the New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association poll this week, behind only Southern New Hampshire.

ZULLO NAMED NE10 PLAYER OF THE WEEK Greg Zullo was named the NE10 Player of the Week on March 20 for his play during the Owls’ trip to Florida. He continued his torrid hitting by posting a team-high 10 RBI to boost his league leading total to 25 during a 5-1 week for the Owls. He had four multiple-hit performances and finished the week going 9-for-25 (.360) in Florida, which moved his batting average to .477, good for second in the league.

He’s also second with four wins.

• Zullo was named to the weekly honor roll due to his performance across all four games in S.C. where he went .529 (9-for-17), with five runs and five RBI.
ZULLO LEADING THE WAY Senior co-captain Greg Zullo currently sits atop the NE10 with a .477 batting average, and also leads the conference with 25 RBI through 16 games.
OWLS SPLIT MYRTLE BEACH TRIP The Southern Connecticut State baseball team played four games in three days (Feb. 24-26) in South Carolina, where it was victorious over Molloy and Mercy, but fell to Wilmington and LIU Post.
CATCH ME IF YOU CAN Jim Palmer leads the NE10 with 12 stolen bases on the year.
CAREER DAY FOR ZULLO Senior co-captain Greg Zullo totaled a career-high five RBI in the season-opening win over Bentley.
CIRCLING THE BASES The Owls have swiped 36 bases through the first 16 games of the year. Jim Palmer has 12 to lead the club, while Greg Zullo and Tyler Criscuolo have five each.
OWLS’ DUO HONORED Redshirt senior Cole Bryant of the Southern Connecticut State University baseball team was selected as the NE10 Pitcher of the Week after his performance in the Owls’ 9-0 win over Bentley during the season-opening weekend. In addition, sophomore Tyler Criscuolo was selected to the league’s weekly honor roll after his performance in the Owls’ two games, where he batted .500.
BRYANT ON A ROLL Cole Bryant registered his second straight complete game shutout, going all nine innings in a 17-0 win over Molloy. He allowed just four hits and fanned five. Dating back to last year, over six appearances, he went 46 innings without allowing an earned run. BRYANT NAMED NCBWA PITCHER OF THE WEEK Senior co-captain Cole Bryant was named National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association’s East Region Pitcher of the Week for his play during the Owls’ games in South Carolina. • Bryant registered his second straight complete game shutout, going all nine innings in a 17-0 win over Molloy in Myrtle Beach. He allowed just four hits and fanned five. CAPTAINS ANNOUNCED Southern Connecticut State University baseball coach Tim Shea has announced that seniors Greg Zullo and Cole Bryant will serve as team captains for the 2017 season. LOOKING BACK AT LAST SEASON The baseball team finished the 2016 season with an overall record of 16-25-1. The Owls were selected to finish fourth in the Southwest Division preseason poll. Southern Connecticut came up just short of the NE10 Championship, finishing in fifth place. THREE OWLS EARN NE10 YEAR-END HONORS Jake Paul, Nick Lamberti and Brandon Rentas were all honored by the NE10 at the conclusion of last year. Paul earned Second-Team All-Conference honors, while both Rentas and Lamberti earned a spot on the NE-10 All-Rookie Team. EXCELLING IN THE CLASSROOM Southern Connecticut had 11 student-athletes selected to the Northeast-10 Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll for their work in the classroom during the fall, 2016 semester.
