HOME SWEET HOME The Southern Connecticut State University baseball team finished 2-2 on its season-opening four-game trip to Myrtle Beach, S.C. This week, the Owls prepare to host the University of Bridgeport for a three-game series. The action kicks off with a 3 p.m. start on Friday followed by a doubleheader at noon on Saturday. ALL-TIME AGAINST BRIDGEPORT The Owls hold a dominating edge of 56-15-1 in the alltime series. The last meeting between these two teams was on March 8, 2016 and produced the only tie in the series history, a 3-3 contest.. CAPTAINS ANNOUNCED Southern Connecticut State University baseball coach Tim Shea has announced that Griffin Garabedian and Jim Palmer will serve as team captains for the Owls for the 2018 season. LOOKING BACK AT LAST SEASON The Owls finished the 2017 season with 27 wins, won the NE10 Southwest Division title and qualified for the NCAA Tournament. The Owls won the division title for the second time in four years. WELCOME TO THE CLUB Ten newcomers have joined the Owls’ squad for the 2018 season – Vicente Mendoza, Isaiah Likely, Anthony Zambito, Patrick Webler, Henry Santiago, Jonas Webler, Cameron O’Toole, Samuel Nepiarsky (transfer from UConn), Jeffrey Walsh and Cameron Winiarz (transfer from AIC). ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT RELEASES NEW LOGO In conjunction with the 2017 Homecoming Weekend festivities, the Southern Connecticut State University athletic department announced a redesign of its Owl logo, effective Oct. 21, 2017. SCSU partnered with Phoenix Design Works of Maplewood, New Jersey for the development of the new athletics logos. EXCELLING IN THE CLASSROOM Southern Connecticut had 16 student-athletes selected to the Northeast-10 Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll for their work in the classroom during the fall, 2017 semester. UP NEXT Southern Connecticut is back in action on March 6 to face Queens College in Flushing, N.Y., with the game set for 3 p.m.
