2018 Springball League Playing Rules PINTO 7 DIVISION DIVISION MAKE-UP Players of League Age 7, as per PONY rules. PLAYING FIELD Distance between bases is 60 feet. The pitching machine will release the ball 38 feet from home plate. EQUIPMENT Pitching Machine with generator GAME DURATION Games will be a maximum six innings. No new inning may start after 1 hour and 25 minutes. Each team will be allowed maximum 5 runs per team / per inning, or 3 outs, whichever comes first. An inning started must be completed, unless the time limit has expired, and the home team is at bat and ahead. MERCY RULE (10-Run Rule): If a team is leading an opponent by at least ten runs after four or more complete innings, or after three and one half innings, if the home team has the ten-run lead, the game shall be terminated. Score and standings are kept. PLAYING RULES BATTING: Each batter will be allowed maximum 5 pitches or 3 swinging strikes, whichever comes first. If the ball is not hit into fair play after the 5 pitches the batter is out.
CONTINUOUS BATTING ORDER: Regardless of defensive play. The batting order is established by the manager on the line-up sheet given to the home team’s official scorekeeper. The line-up sheet must list all players that are present.
A batted ball which strikes the pitching machine before touching the ground or a fielder, and is subsequently caught before touching the ground in NOT an out (balls in play).
If a batted ball strikes the pitching machine and remains in fair territory, the ball is fair and live. If the ball strikes the pitching machine and goes into foul territory, without a player touching the ball in fair territory first, the ball is considered dead. All base runners will be awarded the next base and the batter will be awarded 1st base.
PITCHING: Pitching Machine Speed shall be set at 40 MPH. Only the umpire with both Managers shall have authority to make minor modifications to the pitching machine if it is deemed to be out of calibration. Out of calibration shall be defined as multiple pitches out of the strike zone. Recalibration may only be done at the completion of an inning. 2/1/2018

They should attempt to leave the field of play and may not in any way interfere with the defensive players. Penalty: First violation will be a warning and second violation will be ejection.
The player fielding the pitcher’s position shall take a position five (5) feet to the rear of the pitching machine and 3 feet to the left or right. A 2 foot line will be drawn at this position. The player must keep at least one foot on this line at the start of the pitch. If the other foot is free it will be on the side of the line extending away from the pitching machine.
PLAYING RULES 1. MUST PLAY RULE: Each player listed on the game roster will play every other inning on defense. Penalty: Upon notification to the umpire by the opposing manager, the manager in violation will be ejected for the remainder of this game, PLUS the following game. 2. DEFENSIVE: Ten players may be used - four players in the outfield. 3. OUTFIELD: The outfield is designated as starting 15 feet beyond the base line. All outfielders must be in the outfield each time a pitch is made. 4. A play will be called dead once an infielder has control of the ball in the infield and in the umpires judgment the play has ended. 5. A ball thrown back to the pitcher from the catcher is a dead ball. 6. NO STEALING. A runner must remain in contact with the base until the ball is put into play. Penalty: Runner is out. Ball is called dead. 7. OVERTHROWS: All runners may advance as many bases as possible. They do this at their own risk of being tagged out. The ball is live. Exception: Runners on 3 rd base may not go home on an overthrow unless it is part of a continuation play. 8. NO BUNTING. Or showing the intent of a bunt. Penalty: Pitch is a strike and the ball is dead. 9. No dropped third strike rule. 10. No infield fly rule.
