Dance  Team  Tryout  Dates:   Tryout  1:   When:  April  27  &  April  28

**Both  tryouts  will  be  held  at  the  Moody  Field  House   *Please  note  that  you  are  not  required  to  attend  both  tryouts  but,  if  you  do  we will  take  the  higher  of  your  two  scores.  

Attire:   Black,  Kelly  Green,  Silver,  or  Royal  Blue  sports  bra/half top.  Black  hot  shorts,   dance   shoes,  and  hair  down  but  fashioned  out  of  your  face.  Feel  free  to  stand  out  and  be   noticed.  Your  tryout  attire  should  represent  your  personality.     All  potential  dancers  are  expected  to  portray  a  collegiate  image  when  trying  out  for   TAMUCC.  Body  piercings  and  jewelry  of  any  kind,  extreme  hair  styles  and/or  colors   are  not  acceptable  at  tryouts  or  during  the  year  as  an  Islanders  Dancer.  All  dance   candidates  must  remove  all  piercings  and  cover  tattoos  prior  to  arrival  of  tryouts.     *Please  stay  for  interview questions at the end of Day 2 of tryouts. 2. 5-5:30pm:  Warm- Up & stretch

3. 5:30-6:15pm:  Technique & skills 4. 6:15-7pm:  Jazz Choreography

5. 7-7:45pm:  Contemporary Choreography 6. 7:45-8:30pm:  Hip Hop Choreography

7. 8:30-9pm:  Tryout etiquette/Open  Gym  

Day  2:  Saturday  

1. 8:00-8:30am: Warm-up/stretch on your own

2. 8:30-9:30am: Numbers handed out/Review Session

3. 9:30am: Tryouts will begin. Please stay the entire tryout. Interviews will be conducted at the end. Call back numbers will be released and posted later that day.

Turns: o Triple  pirouette  and  Advanced/Elite  turn  sequence  (multiple  turns  in second,  ect.) Leaps/Jumps: Tilt   Jump  o r  Switch  Tilt,  Double  Toe  Touch,  Switch  leap  o r  Center   switch,  Turning  D isc   Extensions o Tilt hold. Leg extension. Needle. Tumbling o Ariel,  back  walk  over,  front  walk  over, front hand spring, back hand spring, hip hop head spring and kip up.   f

Tryout  Routines   The  tryout  routines  will  consist  of  a  jazz, contemporary and hip hop  .  Before and after the choreography of each routine, there will be a few  eight  counts of  free  style. This is  your   opportunity  to  show  the  judges  what  you  can  do.  The  routines  will  be  taught  in  full  on  Friday   night.   Interview   During  tryouts  you  will  be  asked  to  participate  in  a  personal  interview.  Coach’s  and  Judges   will  ask  different  questions  at the end of tryouts,  so  be  prepared  for  that  on  Saturday.  

Males   All  males  may  try  out  for  the  dance  team  however,  they  will  only  be  considered  for  our   competition  team.  The  competition  team  will  begin  practicing  in  November  and  details  will   be  given  out  to  those  who  make  the  team.  

Appearance/Image:   At  TAMUCC,  appearance  and  image  are  very  important  to  the  program.  All  females  are   expected  to  present  themselves  in  a  collegiate  and  professional  manner  at  all  times.  We  are   looking  for  the  “All American”  girl.  At  tryouts,  those  trying  out  are  expected  to  wear  and   look  like:  Females:  all  ladies  are  to  look  “game  ready.”  Natural  make-up  should  be  worn.   Hair  should  be  down  and  out  of  your  face.  All  tryout  apparel  worn  should  not  have  any  o ther   college  or  high  school  logos  on  them.   Prep  Clinic:     We  will  be  hosting  our  tryout prep  clinic  on  April  14th  .  To register,  please  visit   www.islanderspiritcamps.com All choreography and skills needed for tryouts will be learned at this clinic.

Required  Paperwork:   All  potential  first year  members  who  are  not  TAMUCC  students  must  bring  a copy of their   acceptance  letter  to  tryouts.  You  cannot  tryout  unless  you  have  been accepted  to  the  university   and  ALL  your  required  paperwork  is  in.   All  potential  first1 year  members  who  are  current  TAMUCC  students  must  bring  their  student   id  and  current  unofficial  transcript.   Everyone  will  need  to  fill  out  a  medical  release  and  application  form  all  of  which  can  be  found   in  this  packet  or  can  be  filled  out  at  tryouts.   Squad  Size:   For  the  2018-2019  Season we  will  be  taking  between  16-22 dancers.  

Alternates:   Those   chosen   as   an   alternate   will   be   pulled   up   in   the   event   that   someone   does   not  fulfill their commitment to the Team, is not prepared or is dismissed. from the Team  If  you   are  interested  in  being  an  alternate  please  make  sure  to  write  it  down  on  your  application.   Competitive Team: There will be auditions for the competition dance team in the Fall. Only members of the 2018-2019 TAMUCC Dance Team can audition.

Sporting  Season:   The  TAMUCC  dance  team  dances  at  all  home  volleyball  and  men  and  women’s  basketball  games   as  well  as  community  and  university  events.  We  also  travel  with  the  basketball  teams  when   they  attend  post  season  tournaments. The competition team also  attends  NDA  Nationals  in   Daytona Beach,  Florida  and  made  top  10  last  year.  

Financial  Requirements:   The  university  provides  most everything  a  TAMUCC  Dance  Team  member  may  need   including  shoes,  uniforms,  poms,  etc.  The  only  thing  that  you  will  be  asked  to  pay  is  your  cost  of   camp  and practice wear which  is  $700.  We  do  offer  scholarships  for  those  who  qualify.   Summer  Dates:   May 19th...Mandatory New Team Meeting: Team fees of $700. due (or 1st payment in  the   amount  of  $250.00)  You will need to have insurance by this day, so please bring a copy of your insurance card to have on file.
