22nd March 2018 Winyates News Year 4 The Monkeys What a lovely week we have had in school. I have seen lots of happy children showing off their celebration cards for the excellent work they have been doing in and around school. Well done everyone, we are very proud of how hard you have all been working. It was lovely to see so many parents joining the Reception class on their visit to the library today. I’m sure they will have a lovely time reading with their children. I am looking forward to hearing which stories they were listening to.

The Monkey class are busy developing their ability and confidence in reading, to enable them to read aloud. They have learnt a number of key skills to enable them to engage the listeners and ensure they enjoy the reading. We have also been working on fluency in our guided reading sessions with a particular focus on accuracy and decoding of words. In mathematics, we are using skills we have developed in fractions to help the development of key skills with decimals. In science, we are learning about how Attendance and Punctuality animals are classified with a focus on invertebrates, This week we have been Unfortunately illness and the weather out of class using the trees (the has been affecting our attendance over Winyates forest) to establish some the last couple of weeks, but thank you habitats for insects. Year 5 The Butterflies Butterflies Class had a great time at St John’s for their Greek Day Workshop.

In the afternoon, we took part in our own Greek Olympics! We all looked the part, took lots of pictures and had great fun! Thank you to parents for your support in this venture. Mrs Favell. Sports News This Friday is Sports Relief and children have been asked to come in dressed up as a famous sports person and pay £1, which will be going to Sports Relief. Additionally all of the classes will be completing a Mile around our new running track during the course of the day.

We started off the day with a presentation about Greek life and Weaponry. We were given the opportunity to handle some of the weapons and later, got to experience what it might have been like to be in the battle lines. After break time, we went in groups to experience different activities, which included playing an Ancient Greek board game, researching and problem solving.

Today our Year 5/6 Hockey team have gone to represent the whole of Peterborough in the County Finals and we wish them the best of luck. Club News Next week there will be no sports clubs running as it is the last week of term.

Parental Inclusion Clinic Our next clinic will be held in school on 25th April between 10:45 to 12:15. These sessions are for any parents who have concerns regarding their child’s behaviour, health or wellbeing. Nene Park Trust Easter Egg Hunt Oh no, the Easter Bunny has misplaced all of his Easter eggs, can you and your family help him find them! Sleep Clinics at Winyates Ferry Meadows Country Park Does your child struggle to fall asleep? Lack of sleep can impact on a child’s behaviour, health and their ability to learn and concentrate in school. Sleep Clinics take place on a Monday morning with Mrs Clarke. In number time this week we are thinking about counting in 2s and even We have been working really hard in numbers. We have been learning a Reception starting to write our stories. song to help us. Miss Venters set us a We have written the first section and I challenge yesterday and we had to fill cant wait to find out what happens in the numbers missing from the next in the stories. We cant wait to counting by 2s sequence. We rose to share them with you. the challenge and some of us were experts! Some of us have been doing challenges putting numbers to 20 in order using Mr Carson-Doughty special number tiles. In literacy this week we have been thinking about rhyming words. We have been writing rhyming sentences and going on rhyming treasure hunts in outdoor area. Can you think of any rhyming words? This week we are looking forward to visiting the library and looking at all the exciting books they have there. Thank you in advance to all those parents who are able to accompany us on our visit.
