2nd Grade Fall Academy Week 2: Passing Foot Skills – Four Grids
Passing technique
Implementation Each player dribbles around their own grid, players will do a different foot skill in each area. The grids should include inside/outside only, laces only, sole only and weak foot only. Coaching Points • Promote the use of both feet • Keep your head up • Keep both knees bent and lean over the ball • Keep ball within 1 "big" step • Use arms to help maintain balance • Dribble to open space
Implementation First, the players are static passing back and forth to their partner. Every time they make a successful accurate pass they get a point. The ball cannot crash with the opposite pair, if the balls crash they lose all points. Progression Allow both pairs in the grid now they have to pass and move around the grid. Still no crashes allowed. Then play 3v1 in the grid (Monkey in the middle). Coaching Points • Correct Passing technique • Used the inside of the foot • Lock the ankle • Non kicking foot points to the target • Strike the ball and follow through • Receive the ball with the inside, not the sole • Pass and move • Soccer ready- on your toes
Soccer Marbles
Implementation Each player has a ball in the grid. All players attempt to kick their ball into another player’s soccer ball. If they hit another player’s ball they get a point. Progression Weaker foot is 5 points, strong foot is 1 point.
Coaching Points • Correct Passing technique • Keep the ball close when dribbling • Head up • Timing of the pass
All sessions end with small sided games (3v3/4v4) or a regular game (5v5) 20 min at least NO coaching- let the children play!
