2nd Grade Spring Academy Week 1: Dribbling Foot Skills- open grid

Implementation Each player dribbles around the grid, players will do a different foot skill as the coach instructs. Foot skills to include: • Free dribble • Inside only /Outside only • Lace only / Sole only • Inside and outside (zigzag) • Left or right foot only • Creative dribble with moves/turns Coaching Points • Promote the use of both feet • Keep your head up • Keep both knees bent and lean over the ball • Keep ball within 1 "big" step • Use arms to help maintain balance • Dribble to open space

Shark attack

Touch down- 3v3 game

Implementation Each player has a soccer ball dribbling around the area. The Shark is (black player) moving around the area ready to attack. On the coaches call ‘shark attack’ the shark enters the area and has 10 seconds to kick as many balls out as possible. The last player in the area is the winner. Players can re-enter the area if they do 5 consecutive juggles.

Implementation 3v3 game, to score you have to dribble into the end zone and put your foot on the ball for a touchdown. Players are allowed to go anywhere in the field including their end zone.

Progression • Add a second or third shark to make it more difficult. Coaching Points • Promote the use of both feet • Keep both knees bent and lean over the ball • Players should keep the ball close to them • Keep their head up and look for space and away from the shark. • Shield the ball with your body. • Use moves and turns to get away from the shark.

All sessions end with a regular game (5v5) 20 min at least NO coaching- let the children play!

Progression • Players must make one move before they are allowed in the end zone to score.

Coaching Points • Promote the use of both feet • Keep both knees bent and lean over the ball • Players should keep the ball close to them • Try to dribble to space at speed • Shield the ball with your body • Beat a player with a move is possible
