2nd Grade Spring Academy Week 6: Defending 1v1 Foot Skills – Open grid

Implementation Each player dribbles around their own grid, players will do a different foot skill as the coach instructs. ]

1v1 directional

Implementation 1v1 directionally- whites defend, the darks attack. •

Foot skills to include: • Free dribble • Inside/Outside only • Lace/Sole only • Inside and outside (zigzag) • Creative dribble Coaching Points Keep the ball close Head up and looking for space Change directions and speeds Lots of touches on the ball/Fast feet

If the defending player wins the ball, change roles and try to score.

Coaching Points • 4 Downs • Shut down- speed to shut down the attacker • Slow down- slow and stay an arm’s length away • Get down- side on, low stance • Stay down-stay low/ athletic position. • Steal the ball when possible

All sessions end with a regular game (5v5) 20 min at least NO coaching- let the children play!

1v1 either goal

Implementation 1v1 black to attack both goals, the whites defend. •

If the darks win the ball they dribble it to the attackers starting point.
