GOD AND THE FAMILY
In this LIFEPAC®, you will learn all about families. You will learn how God made the very first family. You will read about another family and how it grew into a lot of families. God has rules for the family. Everyone in the family must obey rules to be really happy. You will learn about these rules. You will learn a commandment that has a promise with it. You will find out how the commandment and promise worked for Johnny. Sometimes people do not follow God’s rules for the family. Other times, they are unable to follow God’s rules for reasons not their fault. In these families, there might be just a father, just a mother, a step-parent or step-parents, or a grandparent or grandparents who lead the family. God cares for and loves all children the same. It does not matter who makes up the family. God wants you to know the best plan for the family. That plan will be talked about in this unit. 4 | Introduction

1. GOD MADE THE FAMILY God made the very first family. God made a man, and then he made a woman. The man and woman were a family. Later they had children. Then the family was bigger. In this section, you will learn how families begin. You will learn how Abraham’s family began and how it grew into many families.

The First Family A long time ago, God made a big, beautiful world. He filled His world with beautiful plants and animals. God liked His world, but there were no people. God wanted a friend He could talk with. God made man. God called the man Adam. Adam and God were good friends. They liked to talk together. They liked to walk together in the garden God had made. God gave Adam a job to do. He told Adam to name all the plants and animals. Adam was very busy, but he was alone. He needed a helper. Adam needed a friend to help him and love him.

God put Adam to sleep. While Adam was sleeping, God took out one of Adam’s ribs. God made the rib into a woman. When Adam woke up, God brought the woman to him. Adam was happy God had made a woman for him. Adam called his woman Eve. Eve was his wife. She would always be his friend and helper. Adam and Eve were the first family.

The First Family Grew God knew Adam and Eve would grow old. Some day they would grow old and die. God wanted the world always to have people. God told Adam and Eve to have children. God wanted lots of people in His world. A baby had never been born in the world. The very first baby was born to Adam and Eve. Adam and Eve named their new baby boy Cain. Soon another baby boy came. Cain had a brother. They named him Abel. Later on, another brother was born. His name was Seth. The first family that God had made had grown. Adam and Eve also had many other children. Section 1 | 13
