ChartPak Pens Please note that a small minority of students have suffered from headaches as a result of using Xylene based marker pens. Both Chartpak and Pantone use this solvent. Having said this, Xylene still produces the smoothest blending of colours. (See bottom Diagram) We recommend you try one Tri-Nib AD marker pen before you buy the full set. If you think you may react to solvents, then we suggest purchasing the SPECTRA AD Marker as an alternative, but they don’t produce the same choice of colours as Jo recommends. Copic Marker pens also do an alcohol range of pens if you are unable to get hold of the Spectra pens A third alternative is the FaberCastell Pitt Markers, which are water based, but have the least effective blending capabilities and a much finer nib.
