30° Triangle Ruler Sew together twelve triangles to create a complete circle; six to create a half-circle; or three to create a quarter-circle. This tool can be combined with the Creative Grids® Circle Savvy Ruler to cut pieced arcs which can be incorporated into any circle pattern.
To Cut 30° Triangles From Fabric Strips 1. Choose the height of the finished triangle from 1" to 19". (Measure the triangle from top to bottom - not along one side.) Add a ½" for the seam allowances. For example, if the finished triangle measures 12", cut a strip of fabric 12½" wide from selvage to selvage. Remove selvages and straighten one end of the strip. 2. Place the ruler on the fabric strip, aligning the top of the ruler with the top edge of the fabric. The bottom edge of the fabric strip should be even with the appropriate marked line on the ruler. In our example, the fabric strip measures 12½" so the bottom edge of the strip of fabric should line up with the 12½" line on the ruler. (Fig.1)
4. Turn the ruler 180°. Align the side of the ruler with the cut, angled edge of the fabric. Align the top of the ruler with the BOTTOM edge of the fabric. The top edge of the fabric should be even with the appropriate marked line on the ruler – in this case, 12½". (Fig. 2)

5. Continue to turn the ruler and position it on the fabric strip, cutting a 30° triangle from the fabric each time. (Fig.2)
6. To cut a half-triangle, align the straightened edge of the fabric strip with the line that is ¼" LEFT of the center line. To get mirrored-image triangles, leave the fabric strip folded when cutting. (Fig. 3)

1. Three 30° triangles are used to piece each block. Choose the finished block size. To determine the width of fabric strip size to cut, add ½" to the finished block size, then multiply by 1.414".

Example: For a 10" finished block 10" + ½" = 10½" 10½" x 1.414 = 14.847, round up to 15" fabric strip

2. Following directions to cut 30° triangles, cut (1) center and (2) side triangles for each block from the 15" strips. Sew triangles together into a fan.
A pieced fan unit can be cut into arcs as well as quarter-circles.
3. Square the pieced unit in the example to 10½". Note: The ¼" marks of both the vertical and horizontal lines will intersect at the point of the center triangle, and the 45° line of the square ruler will run up the middle of the center triangle. Trim excess fabric. (Fig. 4)
2. Align the straight edges of the pieced unit with the ¼" Seam Allowance lines on CGRSAV1. Cut once using the 15" slot, a second time using the 10" slot. (Fig. 9A) & (Fig.9B)
1. To make a finished 8" block with a pieced ring. Cut (3) 8" triangles and piece into a fan.

Decide the finished block size and the radius of the pieced quarter-circle of the block. To determine the width of the fabric strips to cut for the pieced quarter-circle, divide the radius of the pieced section by 2 and add ½" to the finished block size.
1. Align edges of pieced unit with ¼" Seam Allowance lines of CGRSAV1 ruler. The seams between triangle units will line up with the 30° and 60° lines on CGRSAV1 ruler. Cut the arc using the 12½" slot on the ruler. (Fig. 6)

To Cut 30° Triangles From Fabric Strips 1. Choose the height of the finished triangle from 1" to 19". (Measure the triangle from top to bottom - not along one side.) Add a ½" for the seam allowances.
